Virtual environments for student fieldwork using networked components
International Journal of Geographical Information Science, 1999The topics of virtual environments and information technology are addressed here in the context of fieldwork teaching. A pedagogic rationale is presented that considers the objectives of fieldwork and outlines the potential utility of networked graphical tools in this mode of teaching that is so essential to a range of subjects.

Challenges and Victories of Virtual Environments With Students With Disabilities
2022The COVID-19 pandemic that began in 2020 altered the educational environment for everyone. Moving from an in-person environment to a virtual one can be highly problematic for individuals (specifically, students with disabilities) whose teachers most often use direct instruction strategies that require face-to-face interaction.

Using 3D virtual environments to facilitate students in constructivist learning
Decision Support Systems, 2013Advances in network infrastructure and computing technology have made 3D virtual environment increasingly popular and less costly. Many education institutions have shown interests in its application in teaching and learning activities. In this project, we evaluated how the 3D virtual environment can facilitate students in achieving learning outcomes ...

Student-Centered Virtual Design Studio Environments
2020Student-centered learning and teaching (SCLT) are rooted in a constructivist view of learning that places the learner at the center of the learning process. One form of SCLT in higher education (HE) is studio-based learning and teaching. Studio-based learning typically occurs in a face-to-face classroom in arts, engineering or design schools, but it ...

The Impact of Collaborative Learning Virtual Environments on Student's Performance
2024 IEEE International Conference on Metrology for eXtended Reality, Artificial Intelligence and Neural Engineering (MetroXRAINE)This research explored the potential of collaborative virtual environments (CVEs) in delivering and assessing course content in higher education. The study examined the role of “asymmetric” (i.e., one participant interacting within the virtual reality (VR) setting and the other “guiding” outside of it) and “symmetric” (i.e., both participants taking a ...
