Theatrical storytelling in a virtual space

Proceedings of the 1st ACM workshop on Story representation, mechanism and context, 2004
In this paper, we explore the uniqueness of storytelling in a theatrical context. From this exploration, we present a theoretical structure for classifying theatrical performance and describe a technical framework for creating such performances in a virtual space.

The Metaplastic Virtual Spaces

2008
Virtual reality systems need new metaphors for their communication. This paper presents a fuzzy enhanced semantic virtual space model. The application of the model tries to improve its conceptualization and definition of a new virtual world system. The paper explains more precisely the theoretical and artistic background of metaplastic virtual worlds ...

Virtual work space for assembly

Systems and Computers in Japan, 1994
AbstractTo implement a human interface for efficiently modeling 3‐D shapes on a computer, a virtual works space enabling direct manipulation of a shape model on a computer similar to manipulating a real 3‐D object must be constructed. In this virtual work space, the tactile and force sensations arising while the object is manipulated must be fed back ...

An IoT Virtual eLearning Space

2020
This paper presents the Virtual eLearning Space implemented as an Internet of Things ecosystem. The components of the space inhabit three layers – a sensing layer, an operative and analytical layer, and a cognitive layer, which are described in more detail. One of the advantages of the space is that integrating the virtual world with the physical world

Navigating large virtual spaces

International Journal of Human-Computer Interaction, 1996
As important as navigation is to human performance in virtual worlds, it is an often overlooked problem in the design process. This article reports an experiment intended to show that real‐world wayfinding and environmental design principles are effective in designing virtual worlds that support skilled wayfinding behavior.

Virtual reality and public spaces

Proceedings of the ACM symposium on Virtual reality software and technology, 2001
Virtual reality researchers and artists will discuss the use of virtual reality as a creative and presentation medium. Museums, galleries, libraries, theatres, research entres, theme parks make varied use of VR. VR is no longer gee whiz, strong content, effective management of technology and good presentation contexts are needed.

Processes in virtual engineering spaces

2009 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man and Cybernetics, 2009
Recently, product models serve lifecycle product information for wide area of engineering activities. This extended purpose results very large and complex product models with high number of relations. Restricted capability of product models for representation of some important elements of the human thinking process during definition of engineering ...

A Virtual Window on media space

Proceedings of the SIGCHI conference on Human factors in computing systems - CHI '95, 1995
The Virtual Window system uses head movements in a local office to control camera movement in a remote office. The result is like a window allowing exploration of remote scenes rather than a flat screen showing moving pictures. Our analysis of the system, experience implementing a prototype, and observations of people using it, combine to suggest that ...

Contradictory spaces: negotiating virtual spaces of consumption

Journal of Service Management, 2009
PurposeThe internet driven information revolution is frequently cited as one of the key drivers (re‐)shaping contemporary consumption. In particular, the internet has been seen as disrupting established conventions in professional services. Popularly, it has been viewed as a liberating medium, a mechanism by which consumers and citizens have been able ...

Social regulation in virtual spaces

CHI '03 extended abstracts on Human factors in computer systems - CHI '03, 2003
The described dissertation focuses on social regulation of user behavior within virtual social spaces. A multi-year field study of two fantasy-based game MUDs (multi-user dungeons) was conducted to gain a detailed understanding of the work involved in regulating behavior in these virtual environments.
