Someone it is Good to Argue With

open access: yesInformal Logic
This paper discusses virtuous audiences in argumentation, asking “what does the virtuous audience look like”, and “how could they contribute to a fully satisfying argument”? We first propose to conceive the role of audience in a moderate way, as someone

La φιλοστοργία chez Fronton, une vertu sans équivalent latin ?

open access: yesAitia, 2011
Oscillating between two meanings - the love of a living being for its offspring, or among Christian authors, the deep affection - the philostorgia seems to have no exact equivalent in Latin : in their correspondence indeed, both Cicero and Fronto use ...

Data‐Driven Materials Science for Energy‐Sustainable Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Data‐driven approaches powered by artificial intelligence are transforming materials discovery for energy sustainability. This review examines how auto‐generated high‐quality materials databases and domain‐specific language models accelerate research in photovoltaics, thermoelectrics, batteries and magnetic materials. Applications involve extraction of

Munazara and (non-)Authoritarian Argumentation

open access: yesInformal Logic
I argue for broadening contemporary argumentation theory’s normative scope by introducing a novel category of argumentative norms that synthesize virtue-theoretic and procedural rules. These norms are derived from munazara, a discipline distinguished by

Controlled Synthesis of Tri‐ and Multi‐Doped Graphene

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
This review systematically evaluates synthesis routes for tri‐ and multi‐doped graphene, from hydrothermal and pyrolysis methods to flash Joule heating, critically assessing how each governs dopant incorporation, bonding configuration, and resulting electronic properties.

The Future of Research in Cognitive Robotics: Foundation Models or Developmental Cognitive Models?

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Research in cognitive robotics founded on principles of developmental psychology and enactive cognitive science would yield what we seek in autonomous robots: the ability to perceive its environment, learn from experience, anticipate the outcome of events, act to pursue goals, and adapt to changing circumstances without resorting to training with ...

Polymorphic Superparaelectric Engineering Boosting Energy Storage Capacity in BaTiO3‐Based Ceramics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Herein, Ca2+ incorporation promotes the coexistence of CaTiO3‐/BaTiO3‐derived paraferroelectric states, stabilizing cubic‐orthorhombic‐tetragonal polymorphic superparaelectric phases. This minimizes polarization energy barriers, facilitating full polarization saturation without compromising efficiency.

Sustainable Materials Design With Multi‐Modal Artificial Intelligence

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Critical mineral scarcity, high embodied carbon, and persistent pollution from materials processing intensify the need for sustainable materials design. This review frames the problem as multi‐objective optimization under heterogeneous, high‐dimensional evidence and highlights multi‐modal AI as an enabling pathway.

Broadening Hard‐Magnet Discovery Beyond Symmetry Constraints via Unified Effective Anisotropy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A unified effective‐anisotropy descriptor (Keff) extends hard‐magnet screening across all seven crystal systems, beyond the uniaxial restriction of conventional searches. Machine‐learning screening of 9320 known ferromagnets and diffusion‐model generation together yield 38 rare‐earth‐free or ‐lean candidates with DFT‐validated magnetic hardness (κ > 1),

Closing the Empirical Loop: Autonomous AI Agents Conduct End‐to‐end Research With Human Participants

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A multi‐agent AI system autonomously executes the complete scientific workflow, from hypothesis to manuscript, across three psychological studies involving 288 participants. The system designs experiments, collects real world data, develops analysis pipelines, and writes manuscripts with theoretical rigor comparable to experienced researchers.
