Expression and purification of E140 protein antigen fragments of Plasmodium vivax and Plasmodium berghei for serological assays

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We provide a step‐by‐step guide for producing E140 antigen fragments from Plasmodium berghei (Pb1) and Plasmodium vivax (Pv1). Pb1/Pv1 are expressed in E. coli, solubilized by freeze–thawing, refolded by slow dilution, purified by affinity chromatography (IMAC), then concentrated and subjected to quality control.

Fighting cancer with virus [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2003
One of the most promising strategies to treat cancer is attacking it with viruses. Virus can kill tumor cells specifically or act as carriers that deliver normal genes into cancer cells. A model for virus therapy of cancer is investigated and some of its predictions are in agreement with results obtained from experimental tumors. Furthermore, the model

Computing Partial Recursive Functions by Virus Machines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Virus Machines are a computational paradigm inspired by the manner in which viruses replicate and transmit from one host cell to another. This paradigm provides non-deterministic sequential devices.

Influenza virus

open access: yesMedicina, 2007
Every year, especially during the cold season, many people catch an acute respiratory disease, namely flu. It is easy to catch this disease; therefore, it spreads very rapidly and often becomes an epidemic or a global pandemic. Airway inflammation and other body ailments, which form in a very short period, torment the patient several weeks. After that,

A potential tumor suppressor role of PLK2 in glioblastoma

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
PLK2 was consistently downregulated in GBM tissues. Overexpression of PLK2 in GBM cell lines U87MG and U251 reduced their tumorigenic potential and enhanced cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. Suggesting that PLK2 overexpression could potentially be leveraged as a therapeutic strategy to inhibit tumor progression and enhance apoptosis, providing new ...

The viral aetiology of influenza-like illnesses in Kampala and Entebbe, Uganda, 2008

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Laboratory Medicine, 2013
Background: As the threat of zoonoses and the emergence of pandemic-prone respiratory viruses increases, there is a need to establish baseline information on the incidence of endemic pathogens in countries worldwide.

Simulation Studies of A Phenomenological Model for the Assembly of Elongated Virus Capsids [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2006
We extend our previously developed general approach (1) to study a phenomenological model in which the simulated packing of hard, attractive spheres on a prolate spheroid surface with convexity constraints produces structures identical to those of prolate virus capsid structures.
