African swine fever virus uses macropinocytosis to enter host cells. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2012
African swine fever (ASF) is caused by a large and highly pathogenic DNA virus, African swine fever virus (ASFV), which provokes severe economic losses and expansion threats.

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Protective essential oil attenuates influenza virus infection: An in vitro study in MDCK cells

open access: yesBMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine, 2010
Background Influenza is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality. The recent pandemic of a novel H1N1 influenza virus has stressed the importance of the search for effective treatments for this disease. Essential oils from aromatic plants have been

Loss of IGF‐1R impairs DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin leading to defective end‐joining

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
IGF‐1R promotes radioresistance by facilitating DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin, enabling non‐homologous end‐joining (NHEJ) repair of double‐strand breaks. Inhibition or loss of IGF‐1R disrupts this recruitment to damage sites, driving compensatory reliance on microhomology‐mediated end‐joining (MMEJ) repair.

A gammaherpesvirus complement regulatory protein promotes initiation of infection by activation of protein kinase Akt/PKB. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Viruses have evolved to evade the host's complement system. The open reading frames 4 (ORF4) of gammaherpesviruses encode homologs of regulators of complement activation (RCA) proteins, which inhibit complement activation at the level of C3 and C4 ...

ZW4864‐mediated inhibition of the β‐catenin/BCL9/BCL9L complex reveals therapeutic potential in bladder cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
BCL9 and BCL9L drive bladder cancer progression by enhancing β‐catenin signaling, promoting proliferation, migration, invasion, and organoid growth. Genetic depletion of BCL9(L) suppresses malignant phenotypes, while pharmacological disruption of the β‐catenin/BCL9(L) complex with ZW4864 inhibits canonical Wnt signaling and tumor‐associated cellular ...

IGDCC4 is required for influenza virus internalization.

open access: yes, 2021
(A) Sialic acid expression in different cells. IGDCC4-KO and A549 control cells treated with or without neuraminidase (NA) were stained with Alexa Fluor 647 conjugated with wheat germ agglutinin, and after three washes with PBS, the cells were suspended ...

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Up Close and Personal with an Internal-Membrane Virus

open access: yesPLoS Biology, 2013
Viruses have evolved a multitude of strategies for infiltrating their genome into host cells. Enveloped viruses such as herpesvirus and poxviruses wrap their genetic payload within a protein shell, or capsid, which itself is swathed in a lipid membrane that can fuse with a target cell's outer membrane.

Generation of recombinant rabies virus ERA strain applied to virus tracking in cell infection

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Agriculture, 2019
The mechanism of rabies virus (RABV) infection still needs to be further characterized. RABV particle with self-fluorescent is a powerful viral model to visualize the viral infection process in cells.
