Virus taxonomy: the database of the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses

open access: yesNucleic Acids Research
Abstract Taxonomic classification underlies all biological science and is the basis for comparative analysis of biological organisms and therefore our understanding of life. The International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) develops the official taxonomy for all viruses.

Epstein-Barr virus internalization and infectivity are blocked by selective protein kinase C inhibitors

open access: yes, 1990
Selective protein kinase C inhibitors can either block or significantly reduce Epstein-Barr virus infectivity: inhibition of transformation and decreased 3H-thymidine (3H-TdR) incorporation in human B lymphocytes infected with B95-8 EBV, as well as a ...

Viral Infection‐Inspired Autonomous Detection of Fusion‐Competent Viruses for Screening and Environmental Surveillance

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by viral entry mechanisms, the FUSION assay enables autonomous detection of respiratory viruses via membrane fusion–triggered CRISPR‐Cas13a activation. VEACON selectively fuses with fusion‐competent viruses, triggering fluorescence within confined vesicles.

ImageStream imaging of IgG and IgA-mediated virion internalization shows distinct internalized virus puncta.

open access: yes, 2016
A. Fluorescent infectious HIV-1BaL-Tomato virions were spinoculated and incubated with freshly isolated monocytes and antibodies for antibody-mediated virion internalization to occur.

Intimate Interaction Between Nucleic Acid and Conjugated Polymers in Organic Electrochemical Transistors Enables Ultrasensitive Biomarker Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The intimate interaction between negatively charged RNA molecules and conjugated polymers in organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs) in aqueous electrolytes is investigated. It demonstrates that RNA binding reduces the volumetric capacitance of the polymer channel, enabling the development of an ultrasensitive biosensing platform capable of ...

A Dual‐Bioresponsive and Programmable Microneedle Matrix as a Bioinspired Coupler for Orchestrating Diabetic Bone Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This project developed a smart bandage‐like patch (a microneedle array) for repairing diabetic bone damage. It intelligently senses signals from infection and inflammation, then releases its medicines in a specific, timed sequence: first an antibacterial agent, then an anti‐inflammatory agent, and finally growth factors.

Label‐Free Detection of a Neurotransmitter Using an Aptamer‐Functionalized Amorphous IGZO Transistor

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
An aptamer‐functionalized amorphous IGZO thin‐film transistor enables label‐free electrical detection of the neurotransmitter serotonin under liquid‐gated operation. Stepwise surface functionalization ensures stable biomolecule integration and efficient electrostatic coupling.

The CLIC/GEEC pathway regulates particle uptake and formation of the virus-containing compartment (VCC) in HIV-1-infected macrophages.

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens
HIV-1 particles are captured by the immunoglobulin superfamily member Siglec-1 on the surface of macrophages and dendritic cells, leading to particle internalization and facilitating trans-infection of CD4+ T cells.

Sensitive and Spatially‐Resolved Electrochemiluminescence via Micropatterning

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
The use of a simple silica nanoparticle surface coating and patterning process can transform ordinary gold electrodes into multiplexed ECL sensing electrodes. Through spatially confined droplet formation and local ECL emission, it is possible to perform multiple analyses simultaneously from individual locations as well as intensify the ECL signal by as
