Neutralization of the PTX3/CD44 axis suppresses TGF‐β1 signaling in kidney fibrosis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study investigates how the PTX3/CD44 axis promotes kidney fibrosis by activating TGF‐β1 signaling. We demonstrate that the neutralizing antibody WHC‐001 effectively inhibits this pathway, suppressing myofibroblast activation and partial epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT).

Performance of New Hybrid Yam (D. rotundata Poir) Varieties in the Forest Zone of Nigeria [PDF]

open access: yesTropicultura, 2003
Four hybrid yam varieties (TDr 89/01438, TDr 89/02665, TDr 95/01924 and TDr 89/01213) and three local cultivars (Danacha, Obiaturugo and 93-2) were evaluated for tuber yield, leaf mosaic virus and nematodes infection at Orin-Ekiti for three years, 1999 ...

Going viral − Virus‐targeting nanobodies for research, diagnostics and therapy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The increasing prevalence of viral diseases represents a major threat for global human health. Nanobodies, small binding fragments derived from camelid heavy‐chain antibodies, offer versatile tools for viral research, diagnostics, and antiviral therapy.

Propagation and Characterization of Influenza Virus Stocks That Lack High Levels of Defective Viral Genomes and Hemagglutinin Mutations

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2016
Influenza virus infections are responsible for more than 250,000 deaths annually. Influenza virus isolation, propagation, and characterization protocols are critical for completing reproducible basic research studies and for generating vaccine seed ...

Soft motions encoded by the fold and mediated by conserved hinge sites drive V‐ATPase allosteric machinery and autoinhibition

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Vacuolar H+‐ATPase (V‐ATPase) is a multisubunit rotary proton pump that acidifies intracellular compartments. Using elastic network models, we identified conserved hinge residues that govern its large‐scale functional motions. We show that intrinsically encoded ‘soft modes’ drive critical functional transitions, including rotary catalysis and ...

Interplay between drought and plant viruses co-infecting melon plants

open access: yesScientific Reports
Drought affects crops directly, and indirectly by affecting the activity of insect pests and the transmitted pathogens. Here, we established an experiment with well-watered or water-stressed melon plants, later single infected with either cucumber mosaic

Baculovirus entire ORF1629 is not essential for viral replication.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
It is generally accepted that ORF1629 is essential for baculovirus replication, which has enabled isolation of recombinant viruses in a baculovirus expression system using linearized viral DNA.

Autophagy Negatively Regulates Transmissible Gastroenteritis Virus Replication

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2016
Autophagy is an evolutionarily ancient pathway that has been shown to be important in the innate immune defense against several viruses. However, little is known about the regulatory role of autophagy in transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV ...
