Microglia-derived TNF-α inhibiting GABAergic neurons in the anterior lateral bed nucleus of the stria terminalis precipitates visceral hypersensitivity induced by colorectal distension in rats

open access: yesNeurobiology of Stress, 2022
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common and debilitating gastrointestinal disorder that is exacerbated by stress and characterized by abdominal pain.

Painful interactions: Microbial compounds and visceral pain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Visceral pain, characterized by abdominal discomfort, originates from organs in the abdominal cavity and is a characteristic symptom in patients suffering from irritable bowel syndrome, vulvodynia or interstitial cystitis.

GABAB receptor‐mediated modulation of sensory neuron excitability: Roles of CaV2.2, G‐protein‐coupled inwardly rectifying potassium (GIRK) channels, and hyperpolarisation‐activated cyclic nucleotide‐gated (HCN) channels in human and mouse nociception

open access: yesExperimental Physiology
Chronic visceral pain is a key symptom of irritable bowel syndrome. Modulation of voltage‐gated calcium and potassium channels by G protein‐coupled receptors plays a key role in dampening nociceptive transmission.

High Cervical Midline Punctate Myelotomy in the Management of Visceral Pain in the Mouse

open access: yesKaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, 2003
Increasing evidence implies the existence of a visceral pain pathway in the dorsal column of the spinal cord. Limited midline myelotomy has been used to treat intractable pelvic cancer pain.

Engagement Patterns with an AI Health Coach for Systemic Sclerosis Self‐Management: A Mixed Methods Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective To evaluate utility of an artificial intelligence (AI) health coach for systemic sclerosis (SSc) self‐management and identify patterns associated with participant engagement. Methods We conducted a mixed‐methods study in which an AI health coach, powered by a large language model (LLM), was used to support self‐management for SSc.

Long-term social isolation increases visceral pain in rats

open access: yesHeliyon, 2022
Long-term social isolation can alter the sensitivity to somatic pain, however, its impact on visceral pain sensitivity remains unknown. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of long-term social isolation on visceral pain sensitivity in ...

A Lightweight Procedural Layer for Hybrid Experimental–Computational Workflows in Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We unveil a prototype hybrid‐workflow framework that fuses automatedcomputation with hands‐on experiments. Built atop pyiron, a lightweight, parameterized layer translates procedure descriptions into executable manual steps, syncing instrument settings, human interventions, and data capture in real‐time today.

Gardiquimod Nanoemulsion Targets Cutaneous Leishmaniasis Lesions Reducing Systemic Toxicity and Parasite Burden

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Nanoemulsion delivery of a TLR7 agonist enhances safety and promotes colocalization with Leishmania‐infected macrophages in skin lesions, enabling a ∼2‐log reduction in parasite burden. However, tissue‐level constraints and TLR‐driven regulatory feedback generate a mixed immune response that limits complete parasite clearance.

Visceral pain – a biopsychological perspective [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Visceral pain arising from inner organs differs from somatic pain in crucial aspects, limiting the possibility to transfer knowledge derived from somatic pain research.
