Experimental demonstrations of high‐accuracy 3D/2D indoor visible light positioning using imaging multiple‐input multiple‐output receivers and artificial neural networks

open access: yesIET Optoelectronics, Volume 19, Issue 1, January/December 2025.
The paper proposes and demonstrates a high‐precision indoor 2D and 3D visible light positioning system using an imaging MIMO configuration with supervised ANN, achieving positioning accuracies of 3.7 mm (2D) and 51 mm (3D) experimentally. A simulation model verifies the results and optimises the system, improving accuracies to 2 mm (2D) and 14.7 mm (3D)

Extreme Learning Machine Models for Classifying the LED Source in a 2D Visible Light Positioning Database

open access: yesIET Optoelectronics, Volume 19, Issue 1, January/December 2025.
In recent years, there has been a surge in interest in indoor positioning systems that use visible light communication (VLC) technology combined with light‐emitting diodes (LEDs). This paper analyses a database made up of approximately 356 image samples obtained from a CMOS sensor.

Data Transmission via Visible Light Communication (VLC) Technique

open access: yesInternational Journal of Innovative Research in Science, Engineering and Technology, 2016
2 ABSTRACT: Light Emitting Diodes are set to penetrate many areas of everyday life. An interesting property of these devices in addition to their lightening capabilities , is that they can also be utilised for data transmissions as well. LED's require low power for their operation and have very high switching speeds.

Experimental Research on Image Transmission Over One Hundred Metres With Limited Bandwidth in a Semantic Ultraviolet Communication System

open access: yesIET Optoelectronics, Volume 19, Issue 1, January/December 2025.
In order to measure the impact of interference light signals and the noise from optoelectronic devices on the signal‐to‐noise ratio, we proposed and built an experimental digital SUC system, as shown in the figure below. ABSTRACT Currently, ultraviolet (UV) communication is proposed for use in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) communication, while the ...

Real-time white-light phosphor-LED visible light communication (VLC) with compact size

open access: yesOptics Express, 2013
In this demonstration, we first demonstrate a real-time phosphor-LED visible light communication (VLC) system with 37 Mbit/s total throughput under a 1.5 m free space transmission length. The transmitter and receiver modules are compact size. Utilizing our proposed pre-equalization technology, the ~1 MHz bandwidth of phosphor LED could be extended to ...

Deep Learning Based Design of Binary Signalling for Optical Wireless Communication Systems With 2D Receiver

open access: yesIET Optoelectronics, Volume 19, Issue 1, January/December 2025.
We apply a deep learning (DL) technique to binary signalling design for optical wireless communication (OWC) system with a 2D LED transmitter array and an arrayed 2D receiver. It is demonstrated that the DL‐based signalling design algorithm is feasible for OWC system, considering physical channel effect. ABSTRACT Recently, deep learning (DL) techniques

Experimental Demonstration of 32‐PAM Optical Camera Communication Using a Low Cost and a High Cost Camera

open access: yesIET Optoelectronics, Volume 19, Issue 1, January/December 2025.
We experimentally demonstrate the feasibility of using up to 32‐PAM in rolling shutter based optical camera communication. A decoding algorithm focused on circumventing the hardware limitations is proposed and the performance of two different cameras is compared.
