Efficient Disparity Computation without Maximum Disparity for Real-Time Stereo Vision

Procedings of the British Machine Vision Conference 2009, 2009
In order to improve the performance of correlation-based disparity computation of stereo vision algorithms, standard methods need to choose in advance the value of the maximum disparity (MD). This value corresponds to the maximum displacement of the projection of a physical point expected between the two images. It generally depends on the motion model,

Disparities in Access to Medical Care for Individuals with Vision Impairment

Ophthalmic Epidemiology, 2009
We investigated the relationship between blindness and vision impairment and access to medical care.Pooled data from the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS) years 2002-2004 were used to identify non-institutionalized individuals over the age of 40 with either self-reported blindness, vision impairment, or no vision impairment (n = 40,643 ...

Mechanisms of stereoscopic vision: the disparity energy model

Current Opinion in Neurobiology, 1998
The past year has seen significant advances in our understanding of the role played by the primary visual cortex (V1) in stereoscopic vision. Recently, the mechanism by which complex cells in V1 respond to random-dot stereograms has been characterized; it appears that their response properties greatly reduce the complexity of one of the critical links ...

Relative Contribution of Disparity and Convergence to Stereoscopic Vision

Nature, 1955
WRIGHT'S1 apparatus for measuring stereoscopic acuity has been modified to enable the measurements to be extended to wider separation between the tested targets. When operated in the dark, it provided two illuminated circular apertures seen against a black background. The experiments were carried out under two conditions of observation. Under condition

Exploiting Traffic Scene Disparity Statistics for Stereo Vision

2014 IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition Workshops, 2014
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems benefit from a full 3D reconstruction of the environment in real-time, often obtained via stereo vision. Semi-Global Matching (SGM) is a popular stereo algorithm for solving this task which is already in use for production vehicles.

Video and disparity compression for automotive stereo vision algorithms

2012 IEEE Second International Conference on Consumer Electronics - Berlin (ICCE-Berlin), 2012
This paper introduces a compression system for automotive stereo algorithms. We propose a method to compress video, disparity and occlusion information based on a 12 bit per pixel H.264/AVC encoder. A rate allocation parameter controls the available bit rate between video and disparity.

Stereoscopic Vision: Cortical Limitations and a Disparity Scaling Effect

Science, 1973
The spatial limitations of stereoscopic vision were studied by using vertical line stimuli containing sinusoidal disparity variations such that different parts of the line appeared at different depths. Stimuli with a finer grain than about 3 cycles per degree did not elicit depth perception, even though the sinusoidal curvature was clearly visible ...
