Neural correlates of motion-induced blindness in the human brain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Motion-induced blindness (MIB) is a visual phenomenon in which highly salient visual targets spontaneously disappear from visual awareness (and subsequently reappear) when superimposed on a moving background of distracters. Such fluctuations in awareness

Development and Preliminary In Vivo Study of 3D‐Printed Bioactive Glass Scaffolds with Trabecular Architecture

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports the fabrication of trabecular bioactive glass scaffolds (composition “1d”: 46.1SiO2‐28.7CaO‐8.8MgO‐6.2P2O5‐5.7CaF2‐4.5Na2O wt%) through vat photopolymerization and the relevant results from mechanical testing and in vivo implantation procedures in rabbit femora, showing great promise for bone tissue engineering applications.

The Visual Mismatch Negativity Elicited with Visual Speech Stimuli

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2013
The visual mismatch negativity (vMMN), deriving from the brain’s response to stimulus deviance, is thought to be generated by the cortex that represents the stimulus. The vMMN response to visual speech stimuli was used in a study of the lateralization of

Drawing the Representation [PDF]

open access: yes
This article argues that the Representation is drawn by the perceiver: that it does not arrive at the visual cortex fully-formed.

3D (Bio) Printing Combined Fiber Fabrication Methods for Tissue Engineering Applications: Possibilities and Limitations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Biofabrication aims at providing innovative technologies and tools for the fabrication of tissue‐like constructs for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. By integrating multiple biofabrication technologies, such as 3D (bio) printing with fiber fabrication methods, it would be more realistic to reconstruct native tissue's ...

Human entorhinal cortex represents visual space using a boundary-anchored grid

open access: yesNature Neuroscience, 2017
When participants performed a visual search task, functional MRI responses in entorhinal cortex exhibited a sixfold periodic modulation by gaze-movement direction.

Latency and Selectivity of Single Neurons Indicate Hierarchical Processing in the Human Medial Temporal Lobe [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Neurons in the temporal lobe of both monkeys and humans show selective responses to classes of visual stimuli and even to specific individuals. In this study, we investigate the latency and selectivity of visually responsive neurons recorded from ...

Inter-areal coordination of columnar architectures during visual cortical development

open access: yes, 2008
The occurrence of a critical period of plasticity in the visual cortex has long been established, yet its function in normal development is not fully understood.

Eco‐Fabricated Nanowave‐Textured Implants Drive Microtubule‐Assisted Nuclear Mechanotransduction and Chromatin Modification: Biophysical Priming for Osteogenesis and Bone Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Eco‐friendly nanowave‐textured implants produced via femtosecond laser fabrication enhance bone regeneration by orchestrating a precise mechanotransduction cascade. This nanotopography directs mesenchymal stem cell alignment and cytoskeletal organization, triggering changes in nuclear shape and chromatin acetylation that prime cells for osteogenesis ...

Surface-Based Analyses of Anatomical Properties of the Visual Cortex in Macular Degeneration.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
IntroductionMacular degeneration (MD) can cause a central visual field defect. In a previous study, we found volumetric reductions along the entire visual pathways of MD patients, possibly indicating degeneration of inactive neuronal tissue.
