Anatomy of the Visual Pathways
Journal of Glaucoma, 2013The axons of the retinal ganglion cells form the optic nerve. The two optic nerves meet at the optic chiasm, where the nerve fibers originating in the nasal retina of each eye decussate to join the temporal fibers of the fellow eye. From the chiasm, the same axons continue on as the optic tract.

Gliomas of the Anterior Visual Pathway
Journal of Neuro-Ophthalmology, 1994Gliomas of the anterior visual pathway are rare orbital lesions accounting for 65% of all intrinsic optic nerve tumors. These lesions occur principally among children in the first decade of life. They appear to be true neoplasms that characteristically show early growth, followed by stability in many patients.

Intracranial pathology of the visual pathway
European Journal of Radiology, 2004Intracranial pathologies involving the visual pathway are manifold. Aligning to anatomy, the most frequent and/or most important extrinsic and intrinsic intracranial lesions are presented. Clinical symptoms and imaging characteristics of lesions of the sellar region are demonstrated in different imaging modalities.

Visual disturbances may be caused by diseases of the optic disc, optic nerve, optic chiasm, optic tract, lateral geniculate nucleus, optic radiations, and occipital lobe of the brain, as well as other brain areas involved in complex visual processing.Diagnosis of disturbances of the visual pathways requires both knowledge of their anatomy and ...

Visual Attention And the Parallel Visual Pathways
2002Before examining the differential role played by the two major parallel visual pathways in attention I should like to very briefly review the current status of the parvo-magno functional segregation at various levels of the visual pathways, mainly referring to primates.

The complexity of the visual cells and visual pathways of the sturgeon
Microscopy Research and Technique, 2004AbstractThe visual cells in the retinae of the sturgeon were studied by scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Our investigations revealed the presence of rods, two types of single cones, one type of double cone (two nonidentical cone components adhered together), and one type of twin cone (two identical cone components ...

Adaptive encoding in the visual pathway
Network: Computation in Neural Systems, 2003In a natural setting, the mean luminance and contrast of the light within a visual neuron's receptive field are constantly changing as the eyes saccade across complex scenes. Adaptive mechanisms modulate filtering properties of the early visual pathway in response to these variations, allowing the system to maintain differential sensitivity to ...

VISUAL PATHWAY TUMORS AND HYDROCEPHALUS
Pediatric Hematology and Oncology, 2000The authors evaluated the impact of hydrocephalus on the clinical picture of children with visual pathway tumor (VPT) with or without neurofibromatosis (NF). Charts of children with VPT treated in the authors' center since 1985 were retrospectively reviewed, and those with hydrocephalus were selected and summarized.

Hyperacuity and interpolation by the visual pathways
Vision Research, 1982Abstract Hyperacuity demands some form of neural interpolation. This places constraints on the relation between optical image quality and the cone mosaic. In particular, if the cone mosaic significantly undersamples the optical image, then hyperacuity is downgraded.

Visual Pathways for Shape Abstraction
2011The Medial Axis Transform (MAT) (or skeleton transform) is one of the most studied shape representation techniques with established advantages for general 2D shape recognition. Embedding local boundary information in the skeleton, in particular, has been shown to improve 2D shape recognition capability to state of the art levels.
