The carboxylate “gripper” of the substrate is critical for C‐4 stereo‐inversion by UDP‐glucuronic acid 4‐epimerase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
UDP‐glucuronic acid 4‐epimerase (UGAepi) catalyzes NAD+‐dependent interconversion of UDP‐glucuronic acid (UDP‐GlcA) and UDP‐galacturonic acid (UDP‐GalA) via C4‐oxidation, 4‐keto‐intermediate rotation, and C4‐reduction. Here, Borg et al. examined the role of the substrate's carboxylate group in the enzymic mechanism by analyzing NADH‐dependent reduction

Automatic visual inspection system for microelectronics [PDF]

open access: yes, 1975
A system for automatically inspecting an integrated circuit was developed. A device for shining a scanning narrow light beam at an integrated circuit to be inspected and another light beam at an accepted integrated circuit was included.

B cell mechanobiology in health and disease: emerging techniques and insights into therapeutic responses

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
B cells sense external mechanical forces and convert them into biochemical signals through mechanotransduction. Understanding how malignant B cells respond to physical stimuli represents a groundbreaking area of research. This review examines the key mechano‐related molecules and pathways in B lymphocytes, highlights the most relevant techniques to ...

Grounding semantics in robots for Visual Question Answering [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
In this thesis I describe an operational implementation of an object detection and description system that incorporates in an end-to-end Visual Question Answering system and evaluated it on two visual question answering datasets for compositional ...

V-Proportion: a method based on the Voronoi diagram to study spatial relations in neuronal mosaics of the retina [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The visual system plays a predominant role in the human perception. Although all components of the eye are important to perceive visual information, the retina is a fundamental part of the visual system.

In vivo evidence for glycyl radical insertion into a catalytically inactive variant of pyruvate formate‐lyase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Dimeric pyruvate formate‐lyase cleaves pyruvate using a radical‐based mechanism. G734 serves as a radical storage location, and the radical is transferred to the catalytic C419 residue. Mutation of the C418‐C419 pair causes loss of enzyme activity, but does not impede radical introduction onto G734. Therefore, cis‐ but not trans‐radical transfer occurs

i-JEN: Visual interactive Malaysia crime news retrieval system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Supporting crime news investigation involves a mechanism to help monitor the current and past status of criminal events. We believe this could be well facilitated by focusing on the user interfaces and the event crime model aspects.

Addressing persistent challenges in digital image analysis of cancer tissue: resources developed from a hackathon

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Large multidimensional digital images of cancer tissue are becoming prolific, but many challenges exist to automatically extract relevant information from them using computational tools. We describe publicly available resources that have been developed jointly by expert and non‐expert computational biologists working together during a virtual hackathon

Computing motion in the primate's visual system [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
Computing motion on the basis of the time-varying image intensity is a difficult problem for both artificial and biological vision systems. We will show how one well-known gradient-based computer algorithm for estimating visual motion can be implemented ...

Respiratory complex I‐mediated NAD+ regeneration regulates cancer cell proliferation through the transcriptional and translational control of p21Cip1 expression by SIRT3 and SIRT7

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
NAD+ regeneration by mitochondrial complex I NADH dehydrogenase is important for cancer cell proliferation. Specifically, NAD+ is necessary for the activities of NAD+‐dependent deacetylases SIRT3 and SIRT7, which suppress the expression of p21Cip1 cyclin‐dependent kinase inhibitor, an antiproliferative molecule, at the translational and transcriptional
