Cost‐Effective Identification of Hepatocellular Carcinoma from Cirrhosis or Chronic Hepatitis Virus Infection Using Eight Methylated Plasma DNA Markers

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Early detection of hepatocellular carcinoma in patients with liver cirrhosis and/or hepatitis virus B/C infection improves survival. Through marker discovery, 8 methylated DNA markers are identified and a logistic regression model (COMET‐LR) is built in the training set, which achieved 90.0% sensitivity at 97.4% specificity in the validation set.

Cutaneous T‐cell lymphomas: 2023 update on diagnosis, risk‐stratification, and management

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Hematology, Volume 98, Issue 1, Page 193-209, January 2023., 2023
Abstract Disease Overview Cutaneous T‐cell lymphomas are a heterogenous group of T‐cell neoplasms involving the skin, the majority of which may be classified as Mycosis Fungoides (MF) or Sézary Syndrome (SS). Diagnosis The diagnosis of MF or SS requires the integration of clinical and histopathologic data.

Modelling vitamin D food fortification among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Background: Low vitamin D intake and high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency (serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentration < 50 nmol/L) among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples highlight a need for public health strategies to improve vitamin D status.

Contributions of enriched cereal-grain products, ready-to-eat cereals, and supplements to folic acid and vitamin B-12 usual intake and folate and vitamin B-12 status in US children: National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), 2003–2006 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background: US children consume folic acid from multiple sources. These sources may contribute differently to usual intakes above the age-specific tolerable upper intake level (UL) for folic acid and to folate and vitamin B-12 status.

High Fat Low Carbohydrate Diet Is Linked to CNS Autoimmunity Protection

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mapping global epidemiological data to macronutrient supply reveals high carbohydrate, in contrast to high fat supply, associates with increased multiple sclerosis (MS) prevalence and incidence. This is confirmed in a mouse MS model, experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), using isocaloric diets: a high carbohydrate diet aggravates, a high ...

Fluorescent Vitamin B12–Platinum(II) Derivatives as Potential Metallotheranostic Agents for the Treatment and Imaging of Tumors

open access: yesInorganics
Vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin) is an essential nutrient with very low bioavailability. Compared with normal cells, tumor cells show an increased demand for vitamin B12 to support their abnormal proliferation, which is a feature that can be exploited for ...

Numerical constraints on the size of generation ships from total energy expenditure on board, annual food production and space farming techniques [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
In the first papers of our series on interstellar generation ships we have demonstrated that the numerical code HERITAGE is able to calculate the success rate of multi-generational space missions. Thanks to the social and breeding constraints we examined, a multi-generational crew can safely reach an exoplanet after centuries of deep space travel ...
