Dietary RSO supplementation improved growth performance, simultaneously enriched n‐3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n‐3 PUFA), and enhanced antioxidant capacity in Pekin ducks, which suggested that RSO has the potential to be a novel n‐3 PUFA source and an antioxidant for Pekin ducks to generate animal functional foods.

It is synthesized from the precursor 7-dehydrocholesterol upon UVB exposure in the skin and then hydrolyzed in the liver in position 25, to be finally converted into its active form, 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D (1,25(OH)2D or calcitriol), in the kidneys.

A low‐protein (LP) diet maintained growth performance while enhancing colonic microbiota composition and nitrogen utilization in Ningxiang finishing pigs. These findings enhance our understanding of protein nutrition in indigenous fat‐type pig breeds and provide a theoretical foundation for optimizing dietary formulations in Ningxiang pigs.
