Hepatic accumulation of vitamin D3 and 25-hydroxyvitamin D3☆

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 1976
Concomitant intravenous administration of 25-hydroxycholecalciferol and [3H] vitamin D3 to vitamin D-depleted rats did not affect the conversion of [3H] vitamin D3 to 25-OH-[3H] vitamin D3 as indicated by a serum 25-OH-[3H] vitamin D3 to content at 3 and 24 h identical to those observed in animals receiving [3H] vitamin D3 alone.

Vitamin D3 and skin diseases

Archives of Dermatological Research, 1992
The physiologically active metabolite of vitamin D3, 1 alpha,25-dihydroxycolicalciferol [1,25(OH)2D3, calcitriol] has achieved the status of a hormone. It is believed to mediate its effects by binding to a specific receptor which belongs to the family of nuclear receptors for glucocorticoids, estrogens, thyroxine, and retinoid acid.

Combined Use of Vitamin D3, Vitamin D3 Metabolites and Vitamin C in Bone Metabolism

1987
Vitamin D is formed in the skin or ingested in food and is metabolized in particular organs. It is hydroxylated in the liver by an endoplasmic enzyme to 25(OH)D3. Enzymatic hydroxylation to l,25(OH)2D3 takes place mainly in the mitochondrial portion of the renal cortical cells.

[EHDP + vitamin D3 or vitamin K2].

Clinical calcium, 2005
We investigated the efficacy of concurrent use of two of 1alphaOH vitamin D(3), vitamin K(2), and EHDP in increasing lumbar BMD and in preventing new fracture in patients with primary osteoporosis. D(3) + K(2) showed little effect and was considered to be poor combination.
