Clinical Benefit of Direct Oral Anticoagulants Versus Vitamin K Antagonists in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation and Bioprosthetic Heart Valves

open access: yes, 2019
The use of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and bioprosthetic heart valve is still controversial. The aim of this study was to compare the tolerability and effectiveness of treatment with DOACs versus vitamin K

Lactylation‐Driven PROS1‐TYRO3‐CARF Signaling Promotes Therapy‐Induced Senescence Escape and Radioresistance in Meningioma

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A glycolysis‐driven epigenetic switch promotes therapy resistance in meningioma. Increased lactate production enhances histone H3K27 lactylation, which activates PROS1 secretion. Secreted PROS1 engages TYRO3 signaling to degrade the senescence regulator CARF, allowing cancer cells to escape growth arrest.

Vitamin K deficiency in critically ill patients

open access: yes
Maintaining hemostasis balance in critically ill patients is one of the most complex clinical challenges. Among many factors influencing coagulation, vitamin K is an essential cofactor in synthesis of key proteins of blood clotting system.

Quality of life and the duration of treatment with vitamin K antagonists in patients with deep venous thrombosis

open access: yes, 2003
SummaryIn clinical practice, decisions on the duration of treatment with vitamin K antagonists are usually based on the presence of persistent risk factors, the risk of bleeding and centre policy.

Functional MXene Inks for Printed Electronics: Chemistry, Rheology, and Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Functional MXene inks are emerging as building blocks for MXetronics, connecting MXene synthesis, surface functionalization, ink formulation, and advanced printing with device‐level applications. This review maps how composition, stability, rheology, and processability govern printed structures and enable high‐performance sensors, energy‐storage ...

An Injectable and Self‐Reinforced Piezoelectric Hydrogel for Irregular Bone Defects Regeneration: Dynamic Epigenetic Regulation Approach

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An injectable and self‐reinforcing RSF‐based piezoelectric hydrogel conforms to irregular bone defects and progressively strengthens in situ, overcoming the trade‐off between injectability and mechanical stability. Mechanical loading generates bioelectrical cues that promote P300‐mediated H3K9 acetylation and upregulate PTH1R expression, thereby ...

VKORC1L1, an enzyme rescuing the vitamin K 2,3-epoxide reductase activity in some extrahepatic tissues during anticoagulation therapy

open access: yes, 2013
Vitamin K is involved in the -carboxylation of the vitamin K-dependent proteins, and vitamin K epoxide is a by-product of this reaction. Due to the limited intake of vitamin K, its regeneration is necessary and involves vitamin K 2,3-epoxide reductase ...

Bioelectrochemically Powered Out‐of‐Equilibrium Hydrogels Enable Feedback‐Regulated Functions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A bioelectrochemically powered hydrogel operates far from equilibrium via an antagonistic redox cycle that regulates disulfide exchange within a polyrotaxane network. Coupling electrochemical mediator cycling with enzymatic feedback enables dynamic control of hydrogel mechanics and transport properties, driving glucose‐responsive insulin release with ...

Influence of dietary vitamin K intake on subtherapeutic oral anticoagulant therapy

open access: yes, 2010
P>It is unclear what advice should be given to patients using vitamin K antagonists with respect to dietary vitamin K intake. We performed a nested case-control study in patients attending a Dutch anticoagulation clinic, to determine the association ...

Thermal Shifts Dominate Single‐Gene Responses to Transcription‐Targeting Antibiotics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Thermal shifts reshape bacterial responses to transcription‐targeting antibiotics. In E. coli, temperature can dominate antibiotic‐induced genome‐wide expression, particularly outside 30°C–39°C, through changes in adenosine triphosphate (ATP), nucleoid organization, and drug‐target engagement.
