Effects of vitamins C and E pretreatments on cadmiuminduced serum levels of some biochemical and hormonal parameters in the female guinea pig [PDF]
Cadmium is a widely distributed environmental pollutant and toxicant. The present study was carried out to evaluate the effects of vitamins C and E on cadmium-induced serum levels of alkaline phosphatase (ALP), urea, creatinine, progesterone, LH and FSH ...

Vitamin D sensitivity to the immune responses and autoimmunity: A chemical network model study [PDF]
Although Vitamin D is believed to be involved in a large number of immune responses our understanding of these processes at cellular level remained at infancy. We develop and solve a coarse grained kinetic network model to quantify the effects of variation of vitamin D on human immunity. The system of equations accounts for known inter-relation between

Effect of supplementation during pregnancy with L-arginine and antioxidant vitamins in medicalfood on pre-eclampsia in high risk population: Randomised controlled trial [PDF]
Objective To test the hypothesis that a relative deficiency in L-arginine, the substrate for synthesis of the vasodilatory gas nitric oxide, may be associated with the development of pre-eclampsia in a population at high risk. Design Randomised, blinded,

The ability of human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) to model developmental processes makes them a promising source for engineering testicular tissues to study in vitro maturation and sperm production. This work describes the first hiPSC‐derived testicular model and shows that it captures functional aspects of prepubertal testicular tissues ...

The challenges of studying inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), highlighting limitations of traditional 2D cell cultures and animal models are discussed here. It introduces human intestine organ‐on‐chip (OoC) models as a promising alternative, capable of more accurately mimicking the intestinal microenvironment.

Calculation of the Sun exposure time for the synthesis of vitamin D in Urcuquí, Ecuador [PDF]
The synthesis of vitamin D is strongly linked to the availability of solar energy. For a long time, it was clear that using the erythemal irradiances is a good choice to calculate the exposure time. Several authors argue that this method of minimum exposure time overestimates the calculation of the solar irradiance of vitamin D.

Electronic structure and correlations of vitamin B12 studied within the Haldane-Anderson impurity model [PDF]
We study the electronic structure and correlations of vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamine) by using the framework of the multi-orbital single-impurity Haldane-Anderson model of a transition-metal impurity in a semiconductor host. The parameters of the effective Haldane-Anderson model are obtained within the Hartree-Fock (HF) approximation.
