Plasma fibrinogen, fibrinolysis and (pro)vitamins; Is there a connection?

Fibrinolysis, 1995
Summary Objective: To investigate whether the relationship between anti-oxidant vitamins and cardiovascular disease can be mediated by influencing haemostasis or fibrinolysis. Design: Cross-sectional population study. Setting: Population screening in the northern Sweden MONICA study. Material: 102 men aged 40–49 years, randomly selected.

Effects of amaranth addition on the pro‐vitamin A content, and physical and antioxidant properties of extruded pro‐vitamin A‐biofortified maize snacks

Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, 2015
AbstractBACKGROUNDPro‐vitamin A‐biofortified maize snacks with added leafy vegetable may have a potential as nutritious and health‐promoting products, especially in addressing vitamin A deficiency, which is prevalent in developing regions. The objective of the study was to determine the effects of adding amaranth leaf powder on the physical ...

Facile and selective metalation of 7-dehydro-cholesterol (pro-vitamin D3)

Tetrahedron Letters, 1984
Abstract Subsequent treatment of 7-dehydrocholesterol with trimethylsilylmethylpotassium in tetrahydrofuran, dry ice, mineral acid and diazomethane gives a regioisomerically pure, homoconjugated ester as a diastereomeric mixture, the minor component of which turns out to be thermodynamically more stable than a conjugated isomer.

Non-Pro-Vitamin A and Pro-Vitamin A Carotenoids in Atopy Development

International Archives of Allergy and Immunology, 2013
Carotenoids are important derivatives of the human diet and occur in high concentrations in the human organism. Various carotenoids are also present in human breast milk and are transferred to breast-fed children. The alternative to breastfeeding is supplementation with an infant milk formula, but these formulas contain only a limited variety of ...

The Bioavailability of (pro) Vitamin A Carotenoids and Maximizing the Contribution of Homestead Food Production to Combating Vitamin A Deficiency

International Journal for Vitamin and Nutrition Research, 2007
An estimated 100–140 million children worldwide suffer vitamin A deficiency disorders (VADD). Strategies for combating VADD are best used in combination because they serve particular target groups and none has full coverage. Homestead food production (HFP) can contribute to combating vitamin A deficiency directly, by increasing intake of vitamin A ...

Cosmeceutical formulations of pro-vitamin E phosphate: In-vitro release testing and dermal penetration into excised human skin

International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 2023
Long-term exposure to solar radiation can lead to skin damage such as photoageing, and photocarcinogenesis. This can be prevented by topically applying α-tocopherol phosphate (α-TP). The major challenge is that a significant amount of α-TP needs to reach viable skin layers for effective photoprotection. This study aims to develop candidate formulations

Carotenoids and pro-vitamin A value of white fleshed Brazilian sweet potatoes (Ipomoea batatas Lam.)

Journal of Food Composition and Analysis, 1988
Abstract The main carotenoids of white fleshed sweet potatoes ( Ipomoea batatas Lam.) consumed in Sao Paulo, Brazil, were identified and their pro-vitamin A values were estimated. Raw and cooked samples obtained from CEAGESP (the main market of Sao Paulo) during the period of June 1984 till June 1986 were analyzed. The carotenoids in the raw samples
