Grapevine canes are an abundant by-product of wine industry. The stilbene contents of Vitis vinifera cultivars have been largely studied, but little is known about the stilbene contents of wild Vitis accessions. Moreover, there have only been few studies

Genetic variation and biogeography of the disjunct Vitis subg. Vitis (Vitaceae)
Journal of Biogeography, 2010Aim : Vitis subg. Vitis provides an example of a plant disjunction occurring in the Northern Hemisphere. It shows broad morphological variation but is assumed to be a species complex with limited genetic differentiation. Based on a comprehensive sampling of taxa and polymorphism in both chloroplast and nuclear DNA, we assessed genetic variation within ...

Photoinhibition and recovery of photosynthesis in leaves of Vitis berlandieri and Vitis rupestris
Journal of Plant Physiology, 2004Photoinhibition of photosynthesis was studied in Vitis berlandieri and Vitis rupestris leaves under controlled conditions (irradiation of detached leaves to about 1900 micromol m(-2) s(-1)). The degree of photoinhibition was determined by means of the ratio of variable to maximum chlorophyll (Chl) fluorescence (Fv/Fm) and electron transport ...

Multivariate analysis of Vitis subgenus Vitis seed morphology
Vitis: Journal of Grapevine Research, 2007We studied 142 grapevine seed samples belonging to 5 Vitis species, 92 cultivars of Vitis vinifera, 12 feral/wild populations and 4 hybrid rootstock cultivars. Eleven different characters from the seed and one allometric index have been used. Seeds show a wide range of variation in body dimensions, and in other parameters.

Molecular linkage maps of Vitis vinifera L. and Vitis riparia Mchx
Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 2002Two linkage maps for grape (Vitis spp.) have been developed based on 81 F(1) plants derived from an interspecific cross between the wine cultivar Moscato bianco (Vitis vinifera L.) and a Vitis riparia Mchx. accession, a donor of pathogen resistance traits.

Grapevine somatic embryogenesis is a precious tool in breeding programs as well as in functional genomics studies, embryo tissues being the best sources for regeneration of genetically modified plants. It has also been proposed as a strategy aimed at induction of somaclonal variation, separation of periclinal chimeras, cryopreservation, virus ...
