Polymorphism of the human vitronectin gene causes vitronectin blood type

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1990
Human blood plasma/sera are classified into three distinct vitronectin types based on the relative amount of the 75 kDa polypeptide to its cleavage product of 65 kDa. We asked whether the vitronectin blood types correlated with the polymorphism of the vitronectin gene.

Regulation of human lung fibroblast phenotype and function by vitronectin and vitronectin integrins

Journal of Cell Science, 2001
Myofibroblasts, characterised by high expression of α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA), are important and transient cells in normal wound healing but are found in increased number in various pathological conditions of the lung including asthma and pulmonary fibrosis.

Immunohistochemical Studies of Vitronectin, C5b-9, and Vitronectin Receptor in Membranous Nephropathy

Nephron, 2008
To investigate the involvement of vitronectin, the terminal complement complex (C5b-9), and the vitronectin receptor in the pathogenesis of membranous nephropathy, the immunohistochemical localization of these antigens in the kidney was determined using the immunoperoxidase method and monoclonal antibodies: antivitronectin, anti-SC5b-9 (neoantigen ...

Inhibition of Apatite Formation by Vitronectin

Connective Tissue Research, 2000
This study investigated the concentration-dependent effect of vitronectin (VN), a glycoprotein of the bone matrix, on apatite formation and growth. Precipitation trials in metastable solution and in a pH-controlled solution system showed an inhibition of apatite microcrystal formation by VN.

Measurement of vitronectin content of human spermatozoa and vitronectin concentration within seminal fluid

Fertility and Sterility, 1997
Vitronectin previously has been extracted from human spermatozoa and messenger RNA (mRNA) encoding vitronectin localized by reverse transcriptase in situ polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to spermatocytes of human testis. In the present experiments, we have established ranges for the content of vitronectin in living human spermatozoa and vitronectin ...

Hepatocellular localisation of biosynthesis of vitronectin. Characterisation of the primary structure of rat vitronectin.

Biochemistry and molecular biology international, 1995
To characterize the primary structure of rat Vn, a cDNA library constructed from freshly isolated rat hepatocytes, was screened with a human Vn cDNA probe. Comparison of the sequence of the obtained rat cDNA clone with the sequences of human, mouse and rabbit Vn cDNA's showed predominantly consensus in the somatomedin B domain, the RGD-sequence and its

Platelets and vitronectin: immunocytochemical localization and platelet interaction with exogenously added vitronectin.

Nouvelle revue francaise d'hematologie, 1992
Vitronectin stores were localized in human platelets by immunofluorescence, confocal laser microscopy, and immunoelectron microscopy. In ultrathin cryosections, the immunogold labelling was mainly observed in the alpha-granules, although occasional immunolabelling of the platelet surface was present.
