On squashing hierarchical designs [VLSI]

IEEE Transactions on Computer-Aided Design of Integrated Circuits and Systems, 1995
The problem of partially expanding a hierarchical VLSI design is examined, with the goal of reducing the number of levels of hierarchy while incurring minimal design-size expansion. While the general problem appears NP-hard, an important special case is considered, where the number of levels of hierarchy is reduced by one.

A VLSI design of fuzzy register

Information Sciences, 1993
Abstract A VLSI design of fuzzy register as a fuzzy memory module is presented. Using a very high speed integrated circuit hardware description language compiler and simulator, optimization of VLSI of the fuzzy register circuit is analyzed. Finally, as an example of the application of the fuzzy memory modules, the hardware realization of the ...

Exploiting hierarchy in VLSI design

1986
Recently design systems have been developed, that consider hierarchical circuit design not only as a means for more concise circuit specification but as a basis of more efficient design analysis and optimization. Hierarchical tools are most abundant in the area of artwork analysis, but they also occur in other areas such as compaction, layout, and ...

Algorithms and Heuristics in VLSI Design

2002
The increasing complexity of nowadays VLSI designs makes it hard up to impossible to check their correctness by using validation methods like simulation. Therefore there is is a growing demand for formal verification methods in VLSI design and verification.

muFP, a language for VLSI design

Proceedings of the 1984 ACM Symposium on LISP and functional programming - LFP '84, 1984
In this paper, we present a VLSI design language mFP, which is a variant of Backus' FP [Backus 78, 81]. mFP differs from conventional VLSI design languages in that it can describe both the semantics (or behaviour) of a circuit and its layout (or floorplan) [Sheeran 83].We chose to base our design language on FP for several reasons.
