Non-Saccharomyces Yeasts Nitrogen Source Preferences: Impact on Sequential Fermentation and Wine Volatile Compounds Profile

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2017
Nitrogen sources in the must are important for yeast metabolism, growth, and performance, and wine volatile compounds profile. Yeast assimilable nitrogen (YAN) deficiencies in grape must are one of the main causes of stuck and sluggish fermentation.

Analysis of the volatiles in the headspace above the plasmodium and sporangia of the slime mould (Physarum polycephalum) by SPME-GCMS [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
Solid phase micro-extraction (SPME) coupled with Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) was used to extract and analyse the volatiles in the headspace above the plasmodial and sporulating stages of the slime mould Physarum Polycephalum. In total 115 compounds were identified from across a broad range of chemical classes.

Tropospheric volatile organic compounds in China [PDF]

open access: yesScience of The Total Environment, 2017
Photochemical smog, characterized by high concentrations of ozone (O3) and fine particles (PM2.5) in the atmosphere, has become one of the top environmental concerns in China. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs), one of the key precursors of O3 and secondary organic aerosol (SOA) (an important component of PM2.5), have a critical influence on atmospheric

Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes in Hilbert space with non-Gaussian stochastic volatility [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
We propose a non-Gaussian operator-valued extension of the Barndorff-Nielsen and Shephard stochastic volatility dynamics, defined as the square-root of an operator-valued Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process with Levy noise and bounded drift. We derive conditions for the positive definiteness of the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process, where in particular we must ...

Thiele's PIDE for unit-linked policies in the Heston-Hawkes stochastic volatility model [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
The main purpose of the paper is to derive Thiele's differential equation for unit-linked policies in the Heston-Hawkes stochastic volatility model introduced in arXiv:2210.15343. This model is an extension of the well-known Heston model that incorporates the volatility clustering feature by adding a compound Hawkes process in the volatility. Since the

Monitoring oxidative stability and changes in key volatile compounds in edible oils during ambient storage through HS-SPME/GC–MS

open access: yes, 2017
Headspace solid-phase microextraction/gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (HS-SPME/GC–MS) analysis combined with ‘relative odour activity value (ROAV)’ was used to monitor changes in key volatile compounds in peanut oil, soybean oil, rapeseed oil, and ...

A study of volatile compounds in the breath of children with type 1 diabetes [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
A pilot study of exhaled volatile compounds and their correlation with blood glucose levels in eight children with type 1 diabetes is reported. Five paired blood and breath samples were obtained from each child over a 6 hour period. The blood glucose concentration ranged from 41.4 to 435.6 mg/dL.

Multiscale Stochastic Volatility Model for Derivatives on Futures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In this paper we present a new method to compute the first-order approximation of the price of derivatives on futures in the context of multiscale stochastic volatility of Fouque \textit{et al.} (2011, CUP). It provides an alternative method to the singular perturbation technique presented in Hikspoors and Jaimungal (2008).
