Proteomic signatures of equine dental tooth tissues in ageing and disease
Abstract Background Ageing and dental disease in horses lead to structural and functional deterioration of dental tissues, yet their molecular signatures remain poorly characterised. Understanding how these processes alter the protein composition of enamel, dentin, cementum and pulp is essential for improving equine oral health and identifying ...

Anticipating volcanic eruptions using rescaled range analysis of volcano-tectonic seismicity
The possibility of forecasting volcanic eruptions remains a major challenge for the volcanological scientific community. To date, various techniques based on volcano-tectonic seismicity, endogenous gas emission and satellite imagery have been widely ...

Carbonates from Santos Basin revealed U–Pb ages correlated with basalt ages (A), suggesting that they were formed during magmatic events. These events placed hot CO2 in the reservoir, which, when mixed with carbonate‐rich cold water (B), led to thermal convection, enabling the formation of the U contained in the carbonates.

Early zircon saturation and crystallisation occur in mafic (52–54 wt.% SiO2) lavas at Tengchong volcanic field. These early formed zircons with high δ18O (6.6‰–7.9‰) indicates mantle enrichment by subducted supracrustal materials. ABSTRACT Late Pleistocene (< 0.2 Ma) mafic and evolved volcanic rocks occur in northern Tengchong Volcanic Field, SE ...

Resilience in a noisy urban system
Abstract The ability of cities to recuperate from disturbances and return to their evolutionary pathways depends, first and foremost, on the type of damage that the shock created. But in addition, it depends on how information is transmitted in the urban system and on how noise filters distort the information that reaches economic agents.

The relationship between cellular protein content and selenium accumulation in freshwater microalgae
Abstract Variability in the bioconcentration of selenium (Se) by primary producers at the base of the food web results in uncertainty in predictions of bioaccumulation and ecological risk to higher trophic level organisms. Water chemistry, speciation of Se, and periphyton community composition have all been suggested as factors that contribute to ...

Vegetational response to tephra deposition and land-use change in Iceland: a modern analogue and multiple working hypothesis approach to tephropalynology [PDF]
Evidence is provided from the joint application of tephrochronology and palynology in two Icelandic locations — the island of Papey off the east coast and Seljaland in the south.

The Impacts of Southwest Indian Ocean Tropical Cyclones on Transient Weather in Réunion
Tropical cyclones which make passage near Réunion can have significant impacts on transient weather relative to long‐term means on the island. In this paper, these impacts were determined by a topological analysis of non‐landfalling tropical cyclones. The relationship between storm intensity, distance, duration, and seasonality plays an equal role in ...
