Volcano monitoring and hazard assessments in Chile
Volcanism in Chile occurs in a variety of tectonic settings but mostly in the context of oceanic-continental plate collision, including 92 potentially active volcanoes. There have been more than 30 documented eruptions in the last few centuries. The Servicio Nacional de Geología y Minería (SERNAGEOMIN) is a statutory agency of the Government of Chile ...

Dendrimer Conjugates with PD‐L1‐Binding Peptides Enhance In Vivo Antitumor Immune Response
In this paper, a novel nanoparticle scaffold composed of dendrimers conjugated with peptide‐based immune checkpoint inhibitors, enhancing drug delivery efficacy is introduced. By conjugating PD‐L1‐binding peptides to dendrimers, multivalent binding effects are harnessed, resulting in enhanced binding affinity, prolonged half‐life, and improved ...

Satellite images monitor volcanos [PDF]
In response to the rare but serious threat that volcanoes pose to airplanes, the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration recently established a volcano monitoring service. Under the agreement NOAA will contact FAA if satellite images show ash eruptions reaching higher than 5 km along flight routes. The ...

Monitoring active volcanoes: The geochemical approach
<p>The geochemical surveillance of an active volcano aims to recognize possible signals that are related to changes in volcanic activity. Indeed, as a consequence of the magma rising inside the volcanic "plumbing system" and/or the refilling with new batches of magma, the dissolved volatiles in the magma are progressively released as a function ...

Immunosuppressive Formulations for Immunological Defense against Traumatic Brain Injury
A novel subcutaneous formulation combining alpha‐ketoglutarate, glycolysis inhibitor PFK15, and a myelin peptide reduces inflammation in a mouse TBI model. This formulation promotes regulatory immune cells, enhances autophagy, and improves motor function, suggesting its potential as a prophylactic immunosuppressive therapy to mitigate TBI‐induced ...

State‐of‐the‐Art, Insights, and Perspectives for MOFs‐Nanocomposites and MOF‐Derived (Nano)Materials
Different approaches to MOF‐NP composite formation, such as ship‐in‐a‐bottle, bottle‐around‐the‐ship and in situ one‐step synthesis, are used. Owing to synergistic effects, the advantageous features of the components of the composites are beneficially combined, and their individual drawbacks are mitigated.

Detecting Volcano Deformation in InSAR using Deep learning [PDF]
Globally 800 million people live within 100 km of a volcano and currently 1500 volcanoes are considered active, but half of these have no ground-based monitoring. Alternatively, satellite radar (InSAR) can be employed to observe volcanic ground deformation, which has shown a significant statistical link to eruptions.

A "DIY" data acquisition system for acoustic field measurements under harsh conditions [PDF]
Monitoring active volcanos is an ongoing and important task helping to understand and predict volcanic eruptions. In recent years, analysing the acoustic properties of eruptions became more relevant. We present an inexpensive, lightweight, portable, easy to use and modular acoustic data acquisition system for field measurements that can record data ...

The MEV project: design and testing of a new high-resolution telescope for Muography of Etna Volcano [PDF]
The MEV project aims at developing a muon telescope expressly designed for the muography of Etna Volcano. In particular, one of the active craters in the summit area of the volcano would be a suitable target for this experiment. A muon tracking telescope
