Lack of evidence for voltage dependent calcium channels on platelets
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1985Intracellular calcium was measured in human platelets using the fluorescent calcium indicator Quin 2. A concentration dependent increase was observed with thrombin. Depolarisation induced by high KCl concentrations did not alter [Ca++]i. The calcium agonist Bay K 8644 did not affect resting levels or thrombin stimulated elevation of intracellular ...

Extracellular Calcium Sensitivity and Voltage-Dependent Calcium Channels in C Cells*
Endocrine Reviews, 1995An essential function of C cells is to monitor [Ca2+]e and to increase CT secretion in response to small increments in [Ca2+]e. CT, in turn, decreases [Ca2+]e via its effects on bone and kidney. [Ca2+]e-dependent CT secretion is known to be mediated by corresponding changes in [Ca2+]i.

Noradrenaline contracts arteries by activating voltage-dependent calcium channels
Nature, 1988Noradrenaline (NA) regulates arterial smooth muscle tone and hence blood vessel diameter and blood flow. NA apparently increases tone by causing a calcium influx through the cell membrane. Two calcium influx pathways have been proposed: voltage-activated calcium channels and NA-activated calcium-permeable channels that are voltage-insensitive. Although

Effect of Aging on Brain Voltage-Dependent Calcium Channels
1993Control of interneuronal communication involves a variety of homeostatic mechanisms in which free calcium ions play a fundamental role (1). An altered metabolism of calcium in the brain that occurs with aging has been observed since the beginning of this century (2).

Calcium- and voltage-dependent ion channels inSaccharomyces cerevisiae
Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London. Series B: Biological Sciences, 1992Ion channels in both the tonoplast and the plasma membrane ofSaccharomyces cerevisiaehave been characterized at the single channel level by patch-clamp techniques. The predominant tonoplast channel is cation selective, has an open-channel conductance of 120 pS in 100 mM KCl, and conducts Na+or K+equally well, and Ca2+to a lesser extent.

Kupffer cells contain voltage-dependent calcium channels.
Molecular Pharmacology, 1992Kupffer cells, the resident hepatic macrophages, are activated by calcium, but conclusive evidence that they contain voltage-dependent calcium channels has not been presented previously. In this study, the cytosolic free calcium concentration ([Ca2+]i) of cultured Kupffer cells was measured with the fluorescent Ca2+ indicator fura-2.

Characterization of voltage-dependent calcium channels in T lymphocytes
2005In T lymphocytes, sustained calcium (Ca²⁺) influx through Ca²⁺channels localized in the plasma membrane is critical for T cell activation and proliferation. Previous studies intimated that L-type voltage-dependent Ca²⁺ channels (VDCCs) play a role in Ca²⁺ mobilization during T lymphocyte activation.

Calcium influx by hypertonicity through the voltage‐dependent calcium channels
Neuroscience Research Communications, 2003AbstractWe found out before the facts that propylene glycol (PG) raises the intracellular calcium concentration ([Ca2+]i) and that hypertonicity induced by PG is involved in the [Ca2+]i rise. The present study was conducted for the purpose of determining whether the Ca2+ influx through the Ca2+ channels is related to the rise in [Ca2+]i incuded by ...

Voltage-Dependent and Receptor-Operated Calcium Channels
1995Contraction of airways smooth muscle is universally accepted as being the principal component of the acute phase of airflow limitation that characterizes an asthmatic attack. It is also acknowledged that the airway structure of asthmatic subjects is abnormal.
