Considering voltage stress in preventive islanding

2013 IEEE Grenoble Conference, 2013
Wide area blackouts are an ever present concern in modern power systems as seen by recent events across the world, including India in 2012. Islanding a power system has the ability to isolate certain parts of a network that are identified as having a risk of instability and prevent the problems cascading. In large interconnected power systems, there is

A Zero-Voltage-Switched Isolated Resonant Converter with Reduced Voltage Stress

2018 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE), 2018
This paper proposes a zero-voltage-switched resonant DC-DC converter. The converter enables parasitic components, including the transformer leakage inductance, switch output capacitance and diode junction capacitance to act as a part of the resonant components, which facilitates zero-voltage-switching operation and pushes up switching frequency.

A method for dividing voltage stress of high voltage class E inverter

2015 IEEE International Telecommunications Energy Conference (INTELEC), 2015
In this paper, splitting of peak switch voltage by series connected transistors in the class E inverter is proposed. In this method, peak switch voltage of class E inverter is reduced to half of conventional because shunt capacitor voltage is divided by two switches. Key feature of this method is that drive signal source of each switch can be grounded.

A High-Voltage ZVZCS DC--DC Converter With Low Voltage Stress

IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, 2008
A high-voltage zero-voltage-zero-current-switched dc--dc converter with low voltage stress is presented in this paper. Its circuit structure is extended from a previously developed zero-voltage-switched dc--dc converter consisting of six series-connected switching devices, one three-phase transformer, and an output current tripler.

Optimal voltage support and Stress Minimization in power networks

2015 54th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (CDC), 2015
A standard operational requirement in power systems is that the voltage magnitudes must lie within pre-specified bounds. Conventional wisdom suggests that such a tightly regulated voltage profile should also guarantee a secure system, operating far from static bifurcation instabilities such as voltage collapse.

Electrical measurements of voltage stressed Al2O3/GaAs MOSFET

Microelectronics Reliability, 2007
Abstract Electrical characteristics of GaAs metal–oxide–semiconductor field effect transistor with atomic layer deposition deposited Al 2 O 3 gate dielectric have been investigated. The IV characteristics were studied after various constant voltage stress (CVS) has been applied.

Investigation of voltage stresses inside Adjustable Speed Drives

2011 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition, 2011
This paper investigates the effect of voltage stress on the voltage insulation components inside a regenerative active-front-end adjustable speed drive (ASD). It shows that a high potential voltage insulation issue may exist on various components inside the ASD and cause earlier failures.

New class-E rectifier with low voltage stress

2016 IEEE Asia Pacific Conference on Circuits and Systems (APCCAS), 2016
This paper presents a novel circuit topology of the class-E rectifier by introducing the concept of the class-F rectifier into the basic class-E rectifier. In the proposed class-E rectifier, a harmonic component is added to the switching device of the basic class-E rectifier. Therefore, the proposed class-E rectifier possesses the strengths of both the

Voltage and Current Stresses on HVDC Valves

IEEE Power Engineering Review, 1987
The important considerations that lead to a specific HVDC valve design for a given application are often not well appreciated. In this paper, voltage and current stresses on HVDC valves are discussed in the context of their importance in relation to the capabilities and limitations of modern power thyristors. It is concluded that a better understanding

Determination of the stress level for voltage screen of integrated circuits

Microelectronics Reliability, 2010
Abstract Voltage screen is a method to screen out products that suffer from defectivity related issues. A risk associated with voltage screen is that the applied voltage is too severe and damages the product. Most papers dealing with voltage screen determine the stress voltage by a general rule of thumb (focusing on one specific mechanism) without ...
