Volumes of distribution are proportionality constants between total amount of drug in the body and plasma concentrations. As snapshot plasma drug concentrations may be measured in different conditions (at equilibrium, under pseudo‐equilibrium condition,…), several volumes of distribution have been defined.

Every load with a drug, test substance or other material foreign to the body disturbs the natural steady state. The foreign substance enters the body by absorption from the gastrointestinal tract or an intramuscular or subcutaneous depot, by intravenous administration, or by some other route.

Volume‐area distributions for micropores
Journal of Applied Chemistry, 1965AbstractA comparison of micropore size distributions in the range below 100 Å has been made for a silica gel sample, using the results of exact and approximate Barrett, Joyner & Halenda computations and of the recently proposed method of Dollimore & Heal.

Volume of Distribution in Drug Design
Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, 2015Volume of distribution is one of the most important pharmacokinetic properties of a drug candidate. It is a major determinant of half-life and dosing frequency of a drug. For a similar log P, a basic molecule will tend to exhibit higher volume of distribution than a neutral molecule. Acids often exhibit low volumes of distribution.

The Distribution of Traffic Volumes
Transportation Science, 1970The distribution of hourly volumes is described and its form and characteristics are discussed. Theoretical models of the distribution are derived so that an estimate of the distribution may be obtained if only a fraction of the traffic data for the year is known.

Lung volume, volume history, and the distribution of inhaled boluses
Respiration Physiology, 1978Abstract In 8 standing men we studied the single breath washout of inhaled helium boluses. The volume at which boluses were inhaled (V B ) varied from 0% to 8% VC and subjects achieved V B both by expiring from TLC and inspiring from RV. In 3 subjects we also measured the regional distributions of inhaled Xe boluses as V B varied.

Volume of Distribution as a Function of Time
Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1976A single definition for all volume terms in pharmacokinetic modeling is proposed; this parameter is considered as a function of time. This definition will represent the kinetic nature of pharmacokinetic models and will provide a highly sensitive parameter for correlation with pharmacological responses.

Distributions of vascular volume and compliance in the lung
Journal of Applied Physiology, 1988The ether- and dye-dilution methods were used to estimate the arterial, capillary, and venous volumes and compliances in isolated dog lung lobes. In the range of arterial pressure from approximately 7 to 14.5 Torr and venous pressure of 1.4 to 10.8 Torr, the total lobar blood volume ranged from approximately 2 to approximately 2.6 ml/kg body wt. Forecasting intraday volume distributions
2015 Systems and Information Engineering Design Symposium, 2015Over the past twenty years, trading in financial markets has evolved from a human-oriented process to one that is highly automated. One of the most influential and revolutionary processes in financial markets is algorithmic trading. The focus of this work is to increase trading efficiency by improving the accuracy of intraday volume forecasts, which ...
