Numerical Simulation of High-Density Ratio Bubble Motion with interIsoFoam

open access: yesFluids, 2022
The breeding blanket is one of the fundamental components of a nuclear fusion reactor and is responsible for the fuel production, generating tritium through neutronic capture reaction between lithium and neutrons.

Implementation of Lees-Edwards periodic boundary conditions for direct numerical simulations of particle dispersions under shear flow

open access: yes, 2010
A general methodology is presented to perform direct numerical simulations of particle dispersions in a shear flow with Lees-Edwards periodic boundary conditions.

Computing curvature for volume of fluid methods using machine learning [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Computational Physics, 2019
In spite of considerable progress, computing curvature in Volume of Fluid (VOF) methods continues to be a challenge. The goal is to develop a function or a subroutine that returns the curvature in computational cells containing an interface separating two immiscible fluids, given the volume fraction in the cell and the adjacent cells.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

A Computational Study of Polymer Solutions Flow Regimes during Oil Recovery from a Fractured Model

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
Increasing the efficiency of hydrocarbon field development is an important issue. One of the methods for increasing oil recovery is the injection of aqueous solutions of polymers.

Direct Numerical Simulation of Complex Multi-Fluid Flows Using a Combined Volume of Fluid and Immersed Boundary Method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
In this paper a simulation model is presented for the Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) of complex multi-fluid flows in which simultaneously (moving) deformable (drops or bubbles) and non-deformable (moving) elements (particles) are present, possibly ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
