Maternal Voluntary Exercise during Pregnancy Enhances the Spatial Learning Acquisition but not the Retention of Memory in Rat Pups via a TrkB-mediated Mechanism: The Role of Hippocampal BDNF Expression [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Basic Medical Sciences, 2013
Objective(s): The effect of maternal voluntary exercise on hippocampal BDNF level in rat offspring was studied. In addition, the possible role of hippocampal BDNF receptors in maternal exercise induced enhancement of learning in the rat pups was ...

Advanced Flame Retardant Strategies and Fire Performance Assessment for Safer Photovoltaics in Buildings: A Two‐Part Review

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The integration of photovoltaic (PV) systems into building structures introduces distinct fire risks with critical implications for occupant safety. This review examines the key fire hazards associated with PV implementation and explores mitigation strategies, including flame‐retardant additives.

Host‐Directed Biomaterials for Combatting Bloodstream Infections: From Macrocyclic Peptides to Immune‐Activating Cell Backpacks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bloodstream infections (BSI) are one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity in both civilian and military populations. This paper summarizes recent progress in novel treatment strategies to manage BSI arising from both bacterial and fungal pathogens using molecules, particles, and materials to elicit host‐directed immunity.

Expanding Chemical Space of Nucleic Acid Nanoparticles for Tunable Antiviral‐Like Immunomodulatory Responses and Potent Adjuvant Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce a nucleic acid nanoparticle (NANP) platform designed to be rrecognized by the human innate immune system in a regulated manner. By changing chemical composition while maintaining constant architectural parameters, we identify key determinants of immunorecognition enabling the rational design of NANPs with tunable immune activation profiles

Effects of Voluntary Exercise on Motor Function in Parkinson\'s disease Model of Rats

open access: yesAnnals of Applied Sport Science, 2017
Background. Previous surveys have shown that motor deficits precede the classical motor symptoms seen in Parkinson’s disease (PD) and that physical exercise may have beneficial effects on PD. Objectives.

The Dynamics of Interfacial Trap States in High‐Detectivity Near‐Infrared Photomultiplication Organic Photodetectors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Photomultiplication organic photodetectors (PM OPDs) are an attractive strategy for health‐monitoring. Here, PM‐OPDs are reported with a specific detectivity of 5.7 × 1012 Jones and external quantum efficiency values of 3500% under −10 V. The dynamics of carrier trapping in these devices are elucidated through trap selective spectroscopical techniques.

Shape‐Morphing Nanoengineered Hydrogel Ribbons as Hemostats

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a self‐assembling, shape‐morphing nanoengineered hydrogel ribbon system that rapidly forms porous aggregates in situ for efficient hemostasis in trauma and surgical applications. Abstract Rapid and effective hemorrhage control remains a major challenge in trauma and surgical care, particularly for complex or noncompressible wounds.

The effect of six weeks of voluntary wheel running exercise on hepatic superoxide dismutase levels and apoptosis-inducing factor after doxorubicin administration in aging model rats [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Background: In the last decade, cancer incidence increases progressively with age and older patients cannot participate in treatment programs due to the special physical condition and side effects of anti-tumor drugs. Therefore, the aim of this study was
