Eucapnic voluntary hyperventilation in diagnosing exercise-induced laryngeal obstructions

European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology, 2013
Exercise-induced laryngeal obstructions (EILOs) cause exercise-related respiratory symptoms (ERRS) and are important differential diagnoses to exercise-induced asthma. The diagnostic method for EILOs includes provocation to induce the obstruction followed by a verification of the obstruction and the degree thereof.

Training Effects in Mice after Long-Term Voluntary Exercise

Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, 2006
Mice are an important animal model in exercise studies on the immune system, cancer, and aging. There is limited research about the training effects of long-term voluntary exercise in this species. To describe the training effects in mice given long-term aerobic voluntary exercise.Female C57BL/6 mice were randomly assigned to 1) individual cages with in-

Maximal voluntary hyperpnoea increases blood lactate concentration during exercise

European Journal of Applied Physiology, 2006
Ventilatory work during heavy endurance exercise has not been thought to influence systemic lactate concentration. We evaluated the effect of maximal isocapnic volitional hyperpnoea upon arterialised venous blood lactate concentration ([lac-]B) during leg cycling exercise at maximum lactate steady state (MLSS).

Voluntary food intake during prolonged exercise in obese women

The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1982
The effect of 57 days of moderate physical activity on the energy intake and balance of three obese women (187% of ideal weight) was investigated in a metabolic balance study. Food was offered in extra quantity, prepared in a palatable but simple fashion, and intake was covertly monitored.

Abdominal muscle recruitment during a range of voluntary exercises

Manual Therapy, 2005
Various exercises are used to retrain the abdominal muscles in the management of low back pain and other musculoskeletal disorders. However, few studies have directly investigated the activity of all the abdominal muscles or the recruitment of regions of the abdominal muscles during these manoeuvres.

Cardiovascular responses to voluntary and treadmill exercise in rats

Journal of Applied Physiology, 1993
Male Sprague-Dawley rats (n = 12) were housed in activity wheels and familiarized with treadmill running 2 wk before they were instrumented with Doppler flow probes and a carotid catheter. Mean arterial pressure (MAP), heart rate (HR), mesenteric blood flow (BFmes), and iliac blood flow were determined during bouts of voluntary and treadmill exercise.

Effects of voluntary exercise on immune function in rats

Physiology & Behavior, 1993
We investigated effects of voluntary wheel running on specific antibody responses to Keyhole Limpet Hemocyanin (KLH) and on mitogen-stimulated lymphocyte proliferation in adult male rats. Each subject was placed in a running wheel for 12 h daily during the dark portion of the light cycle for a total of 8 weeks.

Voluntary exercise attenuates inflammaging in mice

Aging, one of the biggest health challenges of our time, is accompanied by numerous events, including an increase in inflammation levels (a process known as “inflammaging”), intestinal permeability, and dysbiotic alterations in the intestinal microbiota.
