Von Mises stresses in random vibration of linear structures

Computers and Structures, 2009
A method to calculate the Von Mises stresses in structures subjected to random loads is presented in this paper. The proposed method gives the exact values of Von Mises stresses in white noise random vibration loads and as accurate as desired in non-uniform random vibration.

Control of the Von Mises Stress with Dynamic Programming

1989
The problem treated is the minimization of the von Mises equivalent stress in elastostatic structures subjected to manufacturing and behavioural constraints by variation of partial boundaries. This constrained non-linear problem is solved using a discrete non-gradient approach which allows a high number of design variables and works without any ...

Plane Stress Equations for the Von Mises–Schleicher Yield Criterion

Journal of Applied Mechanics and Technical Physics, 2004
Systems of equations for plastic stresses and velocities based on the von Mises-Schleicher criterion are obtained for plane stresses. The regions of ellipticity and hyperbolicity of these systems are found, and the limiting stresses and fracture directions are determined using the characteristics of equations for velocity.

Elastic-Plastic Stresses in Rotating Discs by von Mises and Tresca

ZAMM, 1999
The von Mises und Tresca yield criteria are combined with an equilibrium equation to provide the elastic-plastic stress distribution within the discs rotating at high speed. The Tresca criterion provides a closed solution that is traditionally associated with this problem.

Adaptative Control of the error in the von Mises Stress in 2D Elasticity

2005
In current industrial situations, it is necessary to have reliable evaluations of local quantities such as Von Mises stress. These quantities are evaluated using F.E. code. Even if the mechanical model chosen is adequate, the mesh used in F.E. analysis introduces errors on the quantities being computed.

Determination of Von Mises Stresses in Elliptical Cross-Sections

Advances in Science and Technology
This paper analyzes stress distribution in a solid elliptical cross-section under axial load, bending moment, and torsional load, which are common in structural and mechanical engineering. The study aims to derive an explicit formula for von Mises stress as a function of cross-sectional coordinates, providing a unified measure to assess material ...

Conceptual Design of Structures Using an Upper Bound of von Mises Stress

Journal of Computing and Information Science in Engineering, 2018
Optimal layouts for structural design have been generated using topology optimization approach with a wide variety of objectives and constraints. Minimization of compliance is the most common objective but the resultant structures often have stress concentrations.

Shear stress and von Mises stress distributions in the periphery of an embedded acetabular cup implant during impingement

Biomedical Engineering / Biomedizinische Technik, 2016
Abstract As literature implies, daily activities of total hip arthroplasty (THA) patients may include movements prone to implant-implant impingement. Thus, high shear stresses may be induced at the acetabular implant-bone interface, increasing the risk of implant loosening.

Maximum von Mises Stress and Its Location in Trilayer Materials in Contact

Journal of Tribology, 2016
Trilayer materials consisting of a functional outer layer on a substrate containing one intermediate layer are widely used in data-processing devices, biomedical components, and mechanical elements. The recent analytical frequency response functions (FRFs) derived by the authors' group for the contact of multilayer materials lead to the novel ...

Finite element analysis on von Mises stress distributions of Si DSP

Materials Science in Semiconductor Processing, 2013
Abstract In this paper, we describe a 2D axisymmetric quasi-static finite element model based on 300 mm wafer and double-side polishing (DSP) using a COMSOL Multiphysics software. Afterwards, the effects of Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio of polishing pad and the thickness ratio of upper and lower pads on the von Mises stress distribution are ...
