Drawing inspiration from the layered hard‐soft architecture found in sea sponges, this work establishes a new framework for architected cementitious composites (ACC) through multi‐material additive manufacturing (MMAM) process. The integration of mortar and elastomer phases into layered architectures enables synergistic toughening mechanisms, including

Local estimation of the error in the von Mises' stress and L2‐norm of the stress for linear elasticity problems [PDF]
PurposeThis paper aims to focus on the local quality of outputs of interest computed by a finite element analysis in linear elasticity.Design/methodology/approachIn particular outputs of interest are studied which do not depend linearly on the solution of the problem considered such as the L2‐norm of the stress and the von Mises' stress.

A Pressure Microsensor Made of Parylene‐C for Use as Medical Implant
A monolithic parylene‐C pressure sensor with gold strain gauges provides 6.2 μV$\mu{\rm V}$·mmHg$\cdot{\rm mmHg}$−1$^{-1}$ sensitivity. The morphology of a sputtered thin film strain sensor is granular/columnar, which results in a high gauge factor of 7.5. Thermal bonding and parylene‐C coating create a hermetic cavity.

A flexible pressure sensor utilizing a 3D dual‐pore polyurethane structure is developed to overcome the intrinsic trade‐off between sensitivity and linearity. By inducing sequential buckling through distinct pore sizes and shapes, the device achieves highly linear and sensitive responses across a wide pressure range.

Effect of Average Conformity on Contact Stresses in Total Knee Replacement: Finite Element Analysis
The excessive contact stresses have been proved by many investigations for their role in the tibial insert failure. One parameter in the total knee replacement (TKR) design that influences excessive contact stresses is the average conformity.

Von Mises stress in isotropic and aligned network cases.
Von Mises stress along the top (surface layer) of the PC after 10 μm indentations (in the +z direction) with a 250μm diameter indenter for simulations run with isotropic networks (left) or circumferentially-aligned networks (right). The isotropic network

FiN‐Kiri: Fabric‐Based Inflatable Kirigami Actuator for Multimodal Soft Robots
This study introduces a type of inflatable fabric‐based kirigami actuator capable of performing bending motion. The actuator is utilized as soft grippers, a crawling robot and a swimming robot. The crawling robot demonstrated extraordinary motion capabilities, such as moving forward, turning and navigating a narrow tunnel.
