Forced and Periodic Vortex Breakdown
The results of an experimental study of the forced and periodic breakdown of a confined vortex rotating in the opposite direction are presented. The vortex tube consists of two chambers connected by a short conduit through streamlined transitions. The upstream end is closed by a plain wall, and a circular orifice is provided at the downstream end.

Evaluation of Navier-Stokes and Euler solutions for leading-edge separation vortices [PDF]
Extensive study on the numerical simulation of the vortical flow over a double delta wing is carried out using the thin layer Navier-Stokes and Euler equations. Two important flow characteristics, vortex interaction and vortex breakdown, are successfully

On a criterion for vortex breakdown [PDF]
A criterion for the onset of vortex breakdown is proposed. Based upon previous experimental, computational, and theoretical studies, an appropriately defined local Rossby number is used to delineate the region where breakdown occurs.

Flow-field in a vortex with breakdown above sharp edged delta wings [PDF]
The behavior of vortex-flow, accompanied with breakdown, formed above sharp-edged delta wings, was studied experimentally as well as theoretically.

A theory for the core flow of leading-edge vortices [PDF]
Separation-induced leading-edge vortices can dominate the flow about slender wings at moderate to high angles of attack, often with favorable aerodynamic effects.

Vortex breakdown and control experiments in the Ames-Dryden water tunnel [PDF]
Flow-field measurements have been made to determine the effects of core blowing on vortex breakdown and control. The results of these proof-of-concept experiments clearly demonstrate the usefulness of water tunnels as test platforms for advanced flow ...

Supersonic quasi-axisymmetric vortex breakdown [PDF]
An extensive computational study of supersonic quasi-axisymmetric vortex breakdown in a configured circular duct is presented. The unsteady, compressible, full Navier-Stokes (NS) equations are used.

Investigation of empennage buffeting [PDF]
Theoretical methods of predicting aircraft buffeting are reviewed. For the buffeting due to leading-edge vortex breakdown, a method is developed to convert test data of mean square values of fluctuating normal force to buffeting vortex strength through ...
