Vortex dynamics and melting in niobium

Physical Review Letters, 1994
Small angle neutron scattering has been used to investigate the vortex scattering in single crystal niobium. In the mixed state (${\mathit{H}}_{\mathit{c}1}$H${\mathit{H}}_{\mathit{c}2}$) a sixfold hexagonal pattern of peaks is observed at all temperatures.

Quantum dynamics of a single vortex

Nature, 2003
Vortices occur naturally in a wide range of gases and fluids, from macroscopic to microscopic scales. In Bose-Einstein condensates of dilute atomic gases, superfluid helium and superconductors, the existence of vortices is a consequence of the quantum nature of the system.

Dynamic Melting of the Vortex Lattice

Physical Review Letters, 1994
We investigate analytically and numerically the melting of the vortex lattice moving in an inhomogeneous environment under the applied current [ital j]. We predict the existence of a dynamic phase transition at some characteristic current [ital j]=[ital j][sub [ital t]] (crystallization current) from the motion of the amorphous vortex configuration at [

Dynamics of a Viscous Vortex Ring

International Journal of Fluid Mechanics Research, 1999
The evolution of a viscous vortex ring through the use of the earlier obtained solution of the Stokes equations in the form of time-dependent vorticity distribution is studied. In the long-time limit this distribution transforms into the classical self-similar Phillips’ distribution and for t → 0 it reduces to a delta-function.

Dynamics of uniform vortex patch with a point vortex

IEEE Transactions on Plasma Science, 2002
Vortex dynamics in two-dimensional inviscid, incompressible fluids are isomorphic to the dynamics of strongly magnetized guiding center plasmas restricted to E /spl times/ B motion. In this paper, we exploit this analogy and study the dynamics of a uniform vortex patch with a point-like vortex using a particle-in-cell code.

Viscous Vortex Dynamics on Surfaces

ACM Transactions on Graphics
We present a vorticity method for simulating incompressible viscous flows on curved surfaces governed by the Navier-Stokes equations. Unlike previous approaches, our formulation incorporates the often-overlooked Gaussian-curvature-dependent term in the viscous force, which influences both the vorticity equation and the evolution of harmonic components.
