Double-branched vortex generator [PDF]

open access: yes
In order to assess the suitability of using a double branched vortex generator in parametric studies involving vortex interactions, an experimental study of the main vortex and secondary flows produced by a double branched vortex generator was conducted ...

Starting flow through nozzles with temporally variable exit diameter [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Starting flow through a nozzle or orifice typically results in the transient formation of a leading vortex ring and trailing jet. Experiments are conducted to investigate the dynamics of this process in the case of a temporally variable nozzle exit ...

Impact of Sustainable Binders Based on Lignin and Collagen on the Volume Stability and Mechanical Properties of MgO‐C Refractories with MgO‐C Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Collagen hydrolysate is evaluated as a sustainable binder for MgO‐C refractories. Its thermally induced cross‐linking and gas release lead to expansion and cracking in large bricks, but tailored batches with lignin, recyclates, or fine graphite improve the gas release while thermal treatment and stability.

Diffuser Shape Optimization Using Adjoint Solver [PDF]

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences
Shape optimization of a diffuser with vortex generator on the inlet that mimics the impeller of a Francis turbine was performed. The optimization is based on the use of the adjoint solver in ANSYS Fluent.

High Accuracy Volume Flow Rate Measurement Using Vortex Counting [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A prototype device for measuring the volumetric flow-rate by counting vortices has been designed and realized. It consists of a square-section pipe in which are placed a two-dimensional bluff body and a strain gauge force sensor.

Multimodal Data‐Driven Microstructure Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐consistent autonomous workflow for EBSP‐based microstructure segmentation by integrating PCA, GMM clustering, and cNMF with information‐theoretic parameter selection, requiring no user input. An optimal ROI size related to characteristic grain size is identified.

Nonlinear generation of Airy vortex beam

open access: yesOptics Express, 2018
Recently, hybrid beams have sparked considerable interest because of their properties coming from different kinds of beams at the same time. Here, we experimentally demonstrate Airy vortex beam generation in the nonlinear frequency conversion process when the fundamental wave with its phase modulated by a spatial light modulator is incident into a ...
