The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Mid-Infrared Vortex Beam Generator Based on Planar Metamaterials
We designed a kind of new vortex beam generator based on a planar all-dielectric metamaterial in the mid-infrared band. The height of this generator remains constant in the plane, and the effective refractive index increases gradually in the azimuthal ...

Echo-Enabled X-Ray Vortex Generation
A technique to generate high-brightness electromagnetic vortices with tunable topological charge at extreme ultraviolet and x-ray wavelengths is described. Based on a modified version of echo-enabled harmonic generation for free-electron lasers, the technique uses two lasers and two chicanes to produce high-harmonic microbunching of a relativistic ...

Development of a perturbation generator for vortex stability studies [PDF]
Theory predicts vortex instability when subjected to certain types of disturbances. It was desired to build a device which could introduce controlled velocity perturbations into a trailing line vortex in order to study the effects on stability.

A Workflow to Accelerate Microstructure‐Sensitive Fatigue Life Predictions
This study introduces a workflow to accelerate predictions of microstructure‐sensitive fatigue life. Results from frameworks with varying levels of simplification are benchmarked against published reference results. The analysis reveals a trade‐off between accuracy and model complexity, offering researchers a practical guide for selecting the optimal ...

Blade Vortex Interactions: Experimental Measurements of the Near-Flow Field
The near-field flow structure of an intense streamwise vortex filament encountering normally with a blade tip vortex was investigated experimentally. Three cases were investigated, direct impingement, interactions on the pressure side and interactions ...

An experimental investigation of S-duct flow control using arrays of low-profile vortex generators [PDF]
An experimental investigation was undertaken to measure the effect of various configurations of low-profile vortex generator arrays on the flow in a diffusing S-duct.
