Examples of Embedded Defects (in Particle Physics and Condensed Matter) [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
We present a series of examples designed to clarify the formalism of the companion paper `Embedded Vortices'. After summarising this formalism in a prescriptive sense, we run through several examples: firstly, deriving the embedded defect spectrum for ...

Experimental Analysis of Aerodynamic Optimization by Vortex Generators on Wind Turbine Airfoils in Turbulent Flow [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Fluid Mechanics
Wind turbines often operate under complex turbulent environments owing to factors such as the geographic location and wake interference. It remains unclear whether aerodynamic optimization measures for wind turbine airfoils can remain effective in such ...

Theoretical prediction and design for vortex generators in turbulent boundary layers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
A theoretical study is presented of three-dimensional turbulent flow provoked in a boundary layer by an array of low-profile vortex generators (VGs) on the surface.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Visualization of flow separation and control by vortex generators on an single flap in landing configuration

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2012
This paper focuses on a suppression of the flow separation, which occurs on a deflected flap, by means of vortex generators (VG's). An airfoil NACA 63A421 with a simple flap and vane-type vortex generators were used.

Calculation of the Strength of Vortex Currents Induced by Vortex Generators on Flat Plates and the Evaluation of Their Performance

open access: yesEnergies, 2022
Vortex generators are used to overturn the momentum of the flow in the boundary layer, thereby preventing flow separation, and are broadly used in aviation, wind power, heat exchange, and different fields. It has been determined that the capability of an

Aerodynamically shaped vortex generators

open access: yesWind Energy, 2015
AbstractAn aerodynamically shaped vortex generator has been proposed, manufactured and tested in a wind tunnel. The effect on the overall performance when applied on a thick airfoil is an increased lift to drag ratio compared with standard vortex generators. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Active quasi-BIC optical vortex generators for ultrafast switching

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2022
The Pancharatnam–Berry phase induced by the winding topology of polarization around a vortex singularity at bound states in the continuum (BIC) provides a unique approach to optical vortex (OV) generation.

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...
