Observations of the Electromagnetic Electron Kelvin‐Helmholtz Instability and Its Impact on the Dynamics Inside a Flux Rope

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
The electromagnetic electron Kelvin‐Helmholtz instability (EM EKHI) and its impact on the dynamics inside a flux rope (FR) is investigated through observations from the Magnetospheric Multiscale mission.

Effect of Draft Tube Vortex Rope on Shaft System Mechanical Response in Pump-Turbines

open access: yesEnergies
During frequent peak-regulation operation, pumped storage units inevitably operate under off-design conditions. Variations in draft tube flow structures under different load conditions may alter the hydraulic loading acting on the runner and shaft system.

UNSTEADY FLOW SIMULATION IN HYDRAULIC MACHINERY

open access: yesTASK Quarterly, 2002
In the field of hydraulic machinery Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is routinely used today in research and development as well as in the daily design phase. Today in industry mostly steady-state simulations are applied.

Numerical Simulation of Nonlinear Self Oscillations of a Full Load Vortex Rope

open access: yes, 2009
Self excited instabilities or oscillations of a cavitating full load vortex rope occur due to an interaction between the gas volume and the acoustic waves. From the onset of the oscillations, the amplitudes grow until they reach a maximum, called the “limit cycle”.
