The numerical simulation of the rope vortex creation and the possibilities of its control

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2021
Abstract The rope vortex is a phenomena which can be observed in many hydraulic machines, especially turbines and pump–turbines. Its creation is based on a non uniform velocity profile characterized by high value of the circumferential component.

Integrating Artificial Intelligence With Droplet‐Based Microfluidics: Advances, Challenges, and Emerging Opportunities

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Droplet‐based microfluidics enables precise, high‐throughput microscale reactions but continues to face challenges in scalability, reproducibility, and data complexity. This review examines how artificial intelligence enhances droplet generation, detection, sorting, and adaptive control and discusses emerging opportunities for clinical and industrial ...

The origin of net electric currents in solar active regions

open access: yes, 2015
There is a recurring question in solar physics about whether or not electric currents are neutralized in active regions (ARs). This question was recently revisited using three-dimensional (3D) magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) numerical simulations of magnetic ...

The Complex Dynamics of the Precessing Vortex Rope in a Straight Diffuser

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science, 2016
The decelerated swirling flow in the discharge cone of Francis turbines operated at partial discharge develops a self-induced instability with a precessing helical vortex (vortex rope). In an axisymmetric geometry, this phenomenon is expected to generate asynchronous pressure fluctuations as a result of the precessing motion.

Work Versus Force: Simultaneous Processes for Describing Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Physics Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Achieving a unified description of interactions remains an open challenge in theoretical physics, which currently describes four fundamental forces. This situation may be viewed differently when interactions are formulated in terms of processes (work as actio) rather than forces (force as actio), not only at the macroscopic level but also at ...

Innovative Device to Control Self-Induced Instabilities Associated with the Swirling Flow from the Discharge Cone of Hydraulic Turbines

open access: yesActuators
In our previous research work, we investigated different methods to mitigate the vortex rope that appears in the draft tube of a Francis turbine when it operates at off-design operating points.

Sunspot Rotation as a Driver of Major Solar Eruptions in NOAA Active Region 12158

open access: yes, 2016
We studied the developing conditions of sigmoid structure under the influence of magnetic non-potential characteristics of a rotating sunspot in the active region (AR) 12158.

A Metabolomic Signature Predicts Gout Flare Clinical Outcome Associated With Colchicine Prophylaxis

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective This study investigated that serum metabolomics, before urate‐lowering therapy (ULT) initiation, could serve as a biomarker for responsiveness to colchicine prophylaxis in patients with gout commencing treat‐to‐target ULT. Methods We studied a multicenter prospective cohort (n = 409) initiating treat‐to‐target ULT plus colchicine prophylaxis.

How superfluid vortex knots untie

open access: yes, 2015
Knotted and tangled structures frequently appear in physical fields, but so do mechanisms for untying them. To understand how this untying works, we simulate the behavior of 1,458 superfluid vortex knots of varying complexity and scale in the Gross ...

The physics of twisted magnetic tubes rising in a stratified medium: two dimensional results [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
The physics of a twisted magnetic flux tube rising in a stratified medium is studied using a numerical MHD code. The problem considered is fully compressible (no Boussinesq approximation), includes ohmic resistivity, and is two dimensional, i.e., there ...
