Vortex shedding from two cylinders in tandem
Journal of Wind Engineering and Industrial Aerodynamics, 1988Abstract Measurements are presented of the frequencies of vortex shedding from two cylinders in tandem. In the first set of experiments both cylinders were circular. The diameter of the downstream cylinder was 22.5 mm, and three different cylinders, having diameters 23.6 mm, 24.6 mm and 25.7 mm respectively, were used in turn as the upstream cylinder.

A “robust” vortex-shedding anemometer
Experiments in Fluids, 1993A simple device has been constructed for the purpose of monitoring low air speeds. Two such devices have been calibrated to cover the speed range 0.4 to 1.3 m/s, and have shown linear characteristics of frequency versus speed. Flow visualization has shown the absence of end cells and the presence of parallel shedding in the case of low-aspect-ratio ...

The active control of vortex shedding
Journal of Fluids and Structures, 1989This paper describes an active method of controlling vortex shedding from a circular cylinder at Reynolds number 400. The control was effected by an acoustic feedback of signals taken from hot-wires in the wake of the cylinder. The velocity fluctuation at the nominal vortex shedding frequency is reduced throughout the wake, in places by more than 30 ...

Vortex shedding due to laser ablation
The Physics of Fluids, 1984An investigation of laser-driven targets shows the generation and subsequent shedding of strong vortex structures from the ablation layer whenever the density and pressure profiles become noncollinear. It is shown here that vortex shedding explains the inhibited linear Rayleigh–Taylor growth, the short-wavelength cutoff, dynamic stabilization and ...

Relationships between drag and periodic vortex shedding
AIAA Journal, 1965To the writer's knowledge, there are no published data that may be compared with Eq. (3), but the proportionality between the drag coefficient and the inverse of the Strouhal number is the trend that Hoerner presents for bluff bodies in Fig. 7 of Ref. (2).
