Ebolavirus VP40 redux. Or rather, redox.

Structure, 2023
The virion protein 40 (VP40) forms the viral matrix, mediates budding, and downregulates viral RNA synthesis in ebolaviruses. In this issue of Structure, Werner et al. present a structure of VP40 from Sudan ebolavirus with a previously unresolved disulfide bridge that enables regulation of VP40 functions via human thioredoxin.

Identification of novel chemical compounds targeting filovirus VP40-mediated particle production

Antiviral Research, 2022
The central role of Ebola virus (EBOV) VP40 in nascent virion assembly and budding from infected host cells makes it an important therapeutic target. The mechanism of dimerization, following oligomerization of VP40 leading to the production of virus-like particles (VLP) has never been investigated for the development of therapeutic candidates against ...

Rapid detection of EBOLA VP40 in microchip immunofiltration assay

SPIE Proceedings, 2015
In the spring of 2014, the Ebola virus (EBOV) strain Zaire caused a dramatic outbreak in several regions of West Africa. The RT-PCR and antigen capture diagnostic proved to be effective for detecting EBOV in blood and serum. In this paper, we present data of a rapid antigen capture test for the detection of VP40.
