The system considered in this book is given in Fig. 5.1. The HVDC system consists of two VSCs connected via a DC link. The control of converter VSC-1 is done by using DC voltage control, whereas the control of converter VSC-2 is done by active power control. In this chapter, the steady-state and transient behavior of control schemes in normal and fault

Towards interoperability in VSC-HVDC Networks
2022High voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission infrastructure plays a key role in enabling the integration of renewable energy sources (RES). Moreover, the grid of the future is expected to have a high penetration of power electronics interfaced devices (PEIDs), which play a fundamental part in the energy transition towards carbon neutrality.

Modelling, Control and Simulation of VSC-HVDC Systems
2018 15th International Multi-Conference on Systems, Signals & Devices (SSD), 2018The world is facing today a global energy transition challenge since developed countries need more energy for their economy growth in a framework of limited and poorly distributed energy resources. The Voltage Source Converter for High Voltage Direct Current (VSC-HVDC) is the most appropriate and efficient technology leading to accommodate more ...

Potential interactions between VSC HVDC and STATCOM
2014 Power Systems Computation Conference, 2014This paper analyses the dynamic behaviour of a power system with both FACTS and VSC HVDC, in particular, possible potential interactions between a STATCOM and a VSC in a point-to-point HVDC link. The investigation considers different STATCOM locations and VSC control strategies.

Comparison of L-VSC and LCL-VSC converter for HVDC transmission
2012 15th International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference (EPE/PEMC), 2012This paper gives a comparison of L-VSC and LCL VSC AC/DC converter considering a typical HVDC transmission application. The LCL-VSC converter is designed to have low losses and good DC fault protection. The Matlab and PSCAD detailed modeling is used for system design and testing.

Design and simulation of VSC-HVDC controller
2011 International Conference on Electrical and Control Engineering, 2011VSC-HVDC composed by full-controlled converter units is more flexible transmission schemes compared with traditional HVDC. It is necessary to study its control mode. This paper first analyzes the steady-state model of VSC-HVDC, then obtains the relationship among modulation wave phase δ, modulation degree m, active power and reactive power.

Supply passive networks with VSC-HVDC
2001 Power Engineering Society Summer Meeting. Conference Proceedings (Cat. No.01CH37262), 2001In this paper, the steady-state model of the VSC-HVDC (voltage source converter based HVDC) system supplying a passive network has been developed. According to this model, the control strategy is presented. At the same time, the AC filter is designed based on analyzing the spectrum of the AC voltage generated by the VSC.

Dynamic modeling of a VSC-HVDC converter
2013 48th International Universities' Power Engineering Conference (UPEC), 2013The aim of this paper is to present a nonlinear dynamic model for Voltage Source Converter-based HVDC (VSC-HVDC) links that can be used for dynamic studies. It includes the main physical elements and is controlled by PI controllers with antiwindup. A linear control model is derived for efficient tuning of the controllers of the nonlinear dynamic model.
