The purpose of this article is to examine the tradition of writing commentary on one of the most important and controversial Sufi texts, Fus?us? al-H?ikam by Muh?yiddin Ibn al-‘Arabi (d. 1240), who is known as the founder and first-explicator of the teaching of wah?dat al-wujud (the Oneness of Being). This article consists of two main parts.

The two foundational doctrines of wujud Allah al-mutlaq (God's absolute existence) and the concept of al-a'yan al-thabita (permanent entities) are what transformed the idea of wahdat al-wujud into a theory.
