Analysis of a class of distributed queues with application [PDF]

open access: yes, 1988
Recently we have developed a class of media access control algorithms for different types of Local Area Networks. A common feature of these LAN algorithms is that they represent various strategies by which the processors in the LAN can simulate the ...

Size distribution and waiting times for the avalanches of the Cell Network Model of Fracture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The Cell Network Model is a fracture model recently introduced that resembles the microscopical structure and drying process of the parenchymatous tissue of the Bamboo Guadua angustifolia.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Proposal for improvement to reduce waiting times by means of a Mathematical-Computational Model of Waiting Lines

open access: yesEcuadorian Science Journal, 2021
In this article, a solution is proposed through a mathematical model applied to the urban taxi service that goes to “Cantón Durán”, from the city of Guayaquil. Applying a queuing theory model. It is determined whether the way in which the taxi service is currently offered to users is the most indicated with respect to the time that passengers must wait

Differential expression of cancer‐related genes supports prediction of poor response to first‐line treatments in T‐ALL pediatric patients with high minimal residual disease

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the present work, we have identified a transcriptional signature based on the differential expression of six genes (BCL2&MAST4, HSH2D&LAT2, METRN&PITPNM2) that would facilitate the early detection of T‐cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T‐ALL) patients prone to a poor treatment response and could be implemented at diagnosis, along with other risk ...

Safety and Tolerability of Givinostat: Evidence From Real‐World and Clinical Practice

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective The aim of our study was to establish the prevalence of adverse events in a real‐world setting in boys living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) treated with givinostat as part of an Expanded Access Program (EAP) in Italy. Methods The cohort included 90 ambulant boys, with age when treatment started between 6 and 23 years (mean ...

Feasibility of a video-delivered mental health course for primary care patients: a single-group prospective cohort study

open access: yesBMC Primary Care, 2023
Background In many health care systems, primary care is tasked with offering psychological treatment for common mental disorders. Resources are often limited, which complicates widespread dissemination of traditional psychological treatments.

Changes in temperature and precipitation extremes in the IPCC ensemble of global coupled model simulations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Temperature and precipitation extremes and their potential future changes are evaluated in an ensemble of global coupled climate models participating in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) diagnostic exercise for the Fourth Assessment ...

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

Modeling bursts and heavy tails in human dynamics

open access: yes, 2005
Current models of human dynamics, used from risk assessment to communications, assume that human actions are randomly distributed in time and thus well approximated by Poisson processes.
