Individual Wake Vortex Separations: Capacity and Delay Impact on Single and Dual Dependent Runway Systems

open access: yes, 2012
Airport capacity constraints and growing traffic demand in air transportation cause congestion and delay on the ground and in the air. Conservative wake turbulence separation minima in the approach phase guarantee a minimum of in-flight wake encounters ...

Aircraft Wake Vortex Decay in Ground Proximity : Physical Mechanisms and Artificial Enhancement

open access: yes, 2012
Aircraft wake vortex evolution in ground proximity is investigated numerically with large eddy simulations (LES). The simulations are performed with different modifications of the ground surface in order to trigger rapid vortex decay or to simulate the ...

Rapid Estimation Model for Wake Disturbances in Offshore Floating Wind Turbines

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
The precise wake model is crucial for accurately estimating wind farm loads and power, playing a key role in wake control within wind farms. This study proposes a segmented dual-Gaussian wake model, which is built upon existing dual-Gaussian wake models ...

Modelling turbulence in axisymmetric wakes: an application to wind turbine wakes

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Mechanics
A novel fast-running model is developed to predict the three-dimensional (3-D) distribution of turbulent kinetic energy (TKE) in axisymmetric wake flows. This is achieved by mathematically solving the partial differential equation of the TKE transport using the Green's function method.

Ultrathin Li Metal Anodes: Quantitative Design Principles and Manufacturability Across Liquid and Solid‐State Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Ultrathin lithium metal anodes (≤15 µm) offer a promising route to high‐energy‐density batteries due to their high capacity and low potential. This review presents design principles for ultrathin Li, evaluates fabrication strategies, and discusses challenges in liquid and solid‐state cells.

All‐Polyimide‐Mediated Liquid Metal Assembly on Aerogels for Breathable and Robust Electronic Skins

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
An all‐polyimide‐mediated assembly strategy resolves the fundamental conflict between physiological breathability and electromechanical robustness in wearable electronics. By integrating a polyamic acid‐encapsulated liquid metal ink onto an ultralight polyimide aerogel, imidization‐induced contraction enables low‐temperature conductive activation and ...
