Main rotor-tail rotor intraction and its implications for helicopter directional control

open access: yes, 2008
Aerodynamic interference between the main and tail rotor can have a strong negative influence on the flight mechanics of a conventional helicopter. Significant unsteadiness in the tail rotor loading is encountered under certain flight conditions, but the

Enhancing Performance and Reliability of Hf1‐xZrxO2 Morphotropic Phase Boundary Films via Nanolaminate Structuring and Microwave Annealing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Hf–Zr–O‐based morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) thin films often suffer from limited endurance and poor uniformity due to intrinsic phase instability. This work proposes a nanolaminate architecture that spatially separates competing phases, stabilizes phase formation, and suppresses wake‐up‐induced degradation.

Wind Turbine Wake Regulation Method Coupling Actuator Model and Engineering Wake Model

open access: yesEnergies
The wake effect is one of the main factors affecting the power generation of wind farms. Wake regulation is often used to reduce the wake interference between wind turbines. Accurate assessment of the wake flow of wind turbine is essential to wake regulation.

Multimodal Locomotion in Insect‐Inspired Microrobots: A Review of Strategies for Aerial, Surface, Aquatic, and Interfacial Motion

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This review identifies key design considerations for insect‐inspired microrobots capable of multimodal locomotion. To draw inspiration, biological and robotic strategies for moving in air, on water surfaces, and underwater are examined, along with approaches for crossing the air–water interface.

Aerodynamic modeling and wake characterization of a 15-MW offshore wind turbine: Insights from blade-resolved URANS simulations

open access: yesApplied Ocean Research
As offshore wind turbines continue to scale up beyond 15 MW, their aerodynamic complexity and wake interactions present significant modeling and performance prediction challenges.

A study of the turbulent wake of an airfoil in an air stream with a 90° curvature using hot-wire anemometry and large eddy simulation

open access: yes, 2008
This thesis was submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and awarded by Brunel University. The broad aim of the work presented in this thesis is to investigate the wake of an airfoil under the combined effects of streamwise curvature and pressure ...

Aeroacoustics of a coaxial rotor in level flight [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The aeroacoustic characteristics of a coaxial system with teetering rotors in level forward °ight are com- pared to those of an equivalent articulated single rotor with the same solidity.

Multimodal Human–Robot Interaction Using Human Pose Estimation and Local Large Language Models

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A multimodal human–robot interaction framework integrates human pose estimation (HPE) and a large language model (LLM) for gesture‐ and voice‐based robot control. Speech‐to‐text (STT) enables voice command interpretation, while a safety‐aware arbitration mechanism prioritizes gesture input for rapid intervention.

Applying rotorcraft modelling technology to renewable energy research

open access: yes, 2009
The perceived need to reduce mankind's impact on the global climate motivates towards a future society in which a significant proportion of its energy needs will be extracted from the winds and the tides of the planet.

Interactional aerodynamics and acoustics of a hingeless coaxial helicopter with an auxiliary propeller in forward flight [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The aerodynamics and acoustics of a generic coaxial helicopter with a stiff main rotor system and a tail- mounted propulsor are investigated using Brown's Vorticity Transport Model.
