Bioinspired Stabilization of Fluorescent Au@SiO2 Tracers for Multimodal Biological Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates a bioinspired stabilization strategy for fluorescent gold‐silica nanoparticles. Inspired by natural biosilica maturation, high‐temperature calcination transforms the silica shells, preventing dissolution in cell culture media and intracellular environments.

Comparing Infrared Star-Formation Rate Indicators with Optically-Derived Quantities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We examine the UV reprocessing efficiencies of warm dust and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) through an analysis of the mid- and far-infrared surface luminosity densities of 85 nearby H$\alpha$-selected star-forming galaxies detected by the ...

Drug‐Free Thrombolysis Mediated by Physically Activated Micro/Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Overview of particle‐mediated thrombolytic effects (thermal, mechanical, and chemical) and their activating physical stimuli (light, ultrasound, and magnetic field) in drug‐free thrombolysis. ABSTRACT Thrombus‐associated disorders rank among the world's leading causes of death, with ischemic heart disease and stroke as the main contributors.

On the Potential for Bioenergy and Biofuels from Hydrothermal Vent Microbes [PDF]

open access: yesOceanography, 2012
The discovery of deep-sea hydrothermal vents caused scientists to reconsider their notions about life in the deep sea. In these seemingly inhospitable environments, free-living microbes, as well as microbial-animal symbioses, thrive in the warm waters ...

Effective Penetration of the Oxidized Keratin‐Rebonding Materials Into Hair Shafts Based on Charge Conversion

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
We have developed a smart hair‐repair ingredient based on β‐carboxylic acid amide that undergoes negative‐to‐positive charge conversion under mildly acidic conditions. The initial negative charge facilitates deep penetration into the hair fiber, while the subsequent positive charge enables re‐bonding with sulfonate groups in damaged hair keratin.

Fibrillar Bundles as Fibrous Filler Materials for Attaining Cell Anisotropy in Bioprinting

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Fibrillar bundles are introduced as a bioprintable additive that enables robust and scalable cellular alignment within 3D constructs through flow‐induced orientation during extrusion. These fibers support strong cell adhesion and polarization across various cell types and significantly enhance myotube alignment in Gelatine‐Methacryloyl (GelMA ...

Effect of temperature and drawing speed on warm deep drawing characteristics of AZ31 magnesium alloy sheet

open access: yesJournal of Japan Institute of Light Metals, 2006
In this study, effect of drawing speed and flange temperature on formability of cylindrical cup warm deep drawing of AZ31 magnesium alloy sheet is clarified experimentally. For the purpose, a new locally heating and cooling deep drawing apparatus is designed and developed. Magnesium alloy used is AZ31 sheet with 0.5mm thickness.

A material model for aluminium sheet forming at elevated temperatures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
In order to accurately simulate the deep drawing or stretching of aluminum sheet at elevated\ud temperatures, a model is required that incorporates the temperature and strain-rate dependency of the material.\ud In this paper two models are compared: a ...

siRNA Delivery via Cross‐Linked Gelatin Microparticles Enables Targeted Modulation of Osteogenic‐Vascular Cross‐Talk: An Advanced Human 3D in Vitro Test System for Therapeutic siRNA

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Osteogenic‐angiogenic cross‐talk is a vital prerequisite for vascularized bone regeneration. In this study, we investigated the effects of siRNA‐mediated silencing of two inhibitory proteins, Chordin and WWP‐1, via CaP‐NP‐loaded gelatin microparticles in osteogenically differentiated microtissues.

Advanced sheet metal forming [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Weight reduction of vehicles can be achieved by using high strength steels or aluminum. The formability of aluminum can be improved by applying the forming process at elevated temperatures.
