Unification of Conformal and Fuzzy Gravities With Internal Interactions Resulting in SO(10) and a Possible Probe Through Stochastic Gravitational Wave Background

open access: yesFortschritte der Physik, EarlyView.
Abstract The unification of conformal and fuzzy gravities with internal interactions is based on the facts that i) the tangent group of a curved manifold and the manifold itself do not necessarily have the same dimensions and ii) both gravitational theories considered here have been formulated in a gauge theoretic way.

Feeding by slugs on maize imposes variable productivity costs but can induce compensatory growth under some conditions

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Slugs can challenge crop plants grown in no‐till fields. Our results confirm that higher levels of slug feeding can be detrimental to maize plants, but low levels of herbivory by slugs can unexpectedly increase plant growth and occasionally yield. Abstract BACKGROUND In contrast to herbivorous insect pests, relatively little attention has been given to

Climatically suitable areas for Hylobius abietis and Hylobius pales: a global and regional analysis considering economic risks for pine production

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Climate suitability maps indicate a high economic risk for Pinus‐producing municipalities in Brazil if Hylobius abietis and Hylobius pales invade, highlighting the need for preventive measures. Abstract BACKGROUND The weevils Hylobius abietis and Hylobius pales are major pests of pine species within their native ranges.

Investigating the threat to Sitka spruce from Ips typographus: discrimination and colonization of Britain's principal commercial conifer by a damaging forest pest

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
The forest pest Ips typographus was found to demonstrate attraction to Sitka spruce, and to colonize and breed upon cut logs as successfully as its primary host Norway spruce. This has implications for the beetle's establishment and impact in Sitka‐growing regions, including Britain where I.
