The brewing process involves several steps and produces considerable quantities of by-products. One of these is waste brewer's yeast (WBY), an inactive yeast rich in proteins, minerals, vitamins and enzymes. Yeasts and yeast products serve as an important food source for Tephritidae and are considered an alternative protein source.
